By popular request, I designed a new version of MindCuber that you can build from the original LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT set #8527 (rather than the more recent NXT 2.0). I intend to publish build instructions and executable program for this robot in the near future so that more people have the opportunity to try!

When I first mentioned it, one person asked, "which version is faster?"

So I decided to film a race... Enjoy! ;-)

Same scramble?

Both MindCubers use an identical solving algorithm and are mechanically the same apart from a slightly different gear ratio owing to the different parts available in the two NXT sets. Therefore, one robot is faster and would always win given the same scramble.

I used a different scramble to give both a chance of winning! :)
