Yeah, I just checked the regs and you're not allowed to start with the puzzle on the timer but the end of the solve is fine.

you still have to be careful, because your cube can be turned by the timer. i.e. feliks +2 at worlds

Also, dropping your cube on the timer might reset the timer, which is DNF (because it's the competitors fault).

still is pretty rare for it to happen, if the ring was taller it wouldn't be possible for the cube to hit it

Yep. Once when turning the last two tips on pyra, the top of the puzzle pointed though the o ring and reset the timer
