This probably wouldn't work, but would it be beneficial to reverse the magnets in edges so the pieces repel each other instead of attracting? It would still align the faces well i think, and it would reduce friction as well. Although getting strong enough magnets to actually cause any friction reduction might slow down the cube so much that it would be pointless. Please tell me your thoughts. :D
