To be honest I don't really see the purpose of letter quads, since there are 127k but most of them seem to be just 2 letter pairs anyway. Is there a specific advantage that this would have?

The point is for a letter quad to be one sound or one word or one image.
It will reduce the number of objects we have to memorize,
For example, 3BLD memo will be 6 letter quads instead of 12 letter pairs, which will help speed up memoing, and potentially get sub-4 memo global!

Maybe if you're using audio, but with images all the letter quads seem to be 2 images so you would still need the same number of images. And I think you said at the start of the thread that you were working on images and not audio.
audio letter quads will work for 3BLD and 4BLD.
I am also implementing letter quads for MBLD where audio does not work. Letter quads will make MBLD memo information much lesser.
Like a 100 cube 1 hour attempt will feel like a 50 cube 1 hour attempt in memo's worth. The exec will be the double number of moves.

What I'm trying to say is that for visual memo in events like MBLD, letter quads don't really make a difference as each letter quad is 2 images.
A letter quad is never 2 image, just one solid image.
There is no visual memo in MBLD. It is hard coded memo using stories of letter quad images (1LQ=1 image) and using the method of loci.
Each cube is ~6 images which can be one sentence / story and fit in one locus.

In my letter quads system, one quad is one image!!!!
I hope I don't have to reiterate this again.

In the 4 mover song, many of the letter quads were 2 pairs together e.g. 'fog axe'. While this may be one image, it's likely that you'd already be doing this with pairs, so I just feel like it's better not to force it onto harder quads.
Yes correct, I have to work out good single images for a lot of letter quads. It is active development that is ongoing on the 5-style discord server with suggestions from everyone.
End case scenario- I do not want pair of letter pairs in any of my letter quad cases.

Thanks, its a long and tedious project. The spinoff of doing this is that my mind will be more organized and my linguistics will be better.
Also my dream of doing sub-4 memo in 3BLD and sub-30 memo per cube in MBLD.
129.1k cases crossed, a lot of cases cleaned so the progress is always slow towards the end yo!
Inching closer towards 130k,
I am pretty sure all the cases are covered by now for 3x3 edges.
Letter quads for wings and x-centers still feel more effort for me. I need to work on that. Also letter quads for corners do not stick much for me for some reason, need to do corners only memo more or try CECE instead of ECEC for MBLD memo.
Extremely slow verification and adding of the missing cases to UF5 edges letter quads. I hope to make each LQ crispier soon.

Maybe ash-ivy so some ivy leaves coated in ash? (I use SH instead of X)
Crossed 130k letter quads, an important mark, now I am covering the wing cases as all the 3x3 edges cases are pretty much covered yo.
