So, um… I sort of felt that I should create a progression thread because everyone else has one and I’m hoping that it will give me motivation to practice and improve. I’ve got my GCSEs at the moment so I’m not practicing a ton at the moment but I’m hoping to grind a load over the summer. I’d like to learn 3 blind in the summer as well. I currently know full PLL and about 20 OLLs. I don’t own a 7x7 and my 4x4 is atrocious so I don’t really speedsolve either of those.

My current PBs are as follows (single, ao5):
3x3: 13.46, 21.47
OH: 28.50, 32.50
2x2: 2.00, 6.25
5x5: 3:27.93, 3:44.90
6x6 (lol): 7:00.07, 7:48.11
Skewb: 9.52, 12.08
Pyra: 2.21, 8.91
Clock: 17.81, 24.47
Squan: 47.88, 1:12.62
Mega: 3:04.63, 3:19.02

As you can tell, I don’t really practice big cubes or mega. My favourite events are OH, 3x3 and squan.

Good luck! My PB Pyra ao5 is 4.10 and ao100 6.48 but my single is still slower than yours...

Lol my pyra single is 1.88 and I don’t even practice it.

I got a really lucky scramble. Unfortunately I didn’t save it because it was on CS timer and I transferred all my times over by hand when I switched to twisty timer but didn’t transfer the scrambles too - I would post it here if I could. For some reason the export button on CS timer decided not to work so I had to do them all by hand. I normally average about 12 seconds on pyra so you’re much faster than me.

Do you have the scramble? I don’t really practice pyra much either but I’d like to try it if you do have it. I have sessions on twisty timer for trying other people’s scrambles.

Good luck! You'll have 3BLD down before you know it! 🙌

I’ve neglected this progression thread a little bit (um… maybe a lot actually). I got an MGC 4x4 and 7x7 for my birthday so I can actually speedsolve those now.

I signed up for a comp (UK open) at the end of the month so I’ve been practising for that, meaning that I’ve been neglecting everything that it doesn’t have (meaning that I still haven’t learnt blind). I’ve mostly been practising OH, 3x3, clock and 4x4.

I currently average about 2:10 on 4x4, which is a problem because time limit is 2:00 (which I should probably be able to make by grinding) and cutoff is 1:15 which probably isn’t going to happen. Any tips on how to get good at 4x4 (I do use yau, before anyone suggests that) would be massively appreciated.

My 2x2 is currently deconstructed because I decided to clean it out (it was really gross) and then got demotivated partway through. I really need to reconstruct that so that I can remember my Ortega algorithms again and get some practice in pre-comp. I’ve also been neglecting skewb and pyra (I global about 14 on pyra and about 18 on skewb).

Also, any tips for dealing with comp nerves would be nice, as it’s my first comp so I’m not really sure what to expect, but I’d like to get times that I can be proud of/not be annoyed that they’re miles away from what I average at home.

Try to be efficient and don't rush the solve, like don't just spam tps, you could do slow solves, but you could also just do timed solves where you try to lookahead, and don't do unecesary moves, like moves to find a piece, take your time, also learn 3-2-3, which is a way to do the last 8 edges

Don't think to much about what times you get, at home I did an ao100 on skewb, where I would take every solve into consideration, and just don't look at my averages, and this way I got my first ever sub 4 ao100, so you could do that, where you just don't think about the average, think about other things

UK open was amazing! I got lots of times that I’m really proud of, and also got to meet Tymon, Feliks and Robert Yau which was cool. I got a 1:27 in 4x4, but then DNFed my second solve by only a few seconds which is kind of annoying but I don’t really mind because 1:27 is PB2 for me so it’s I’m really happy with that. I narrowly missed clock cutoff which was annoying, but I was expecting it so I don’t really mind. I had great fun scrambling - I wasn’t even assigned to scramble but they needed more scramblers because some people who were assigned didn’t turn up so I asked the delegate if I was allowed to scramble and he said that it was fine as long as I was sure that I could do so competently. My only complaint is that the chairs were quite uncomfortable.
My results on wca live can be found here if anyone wants to check them out. We don’t talk about that 31, and therefore counting 26, in 3x3 which totally ruined my otherwise good average.

Comp results have now been posted so here is my WCA profile:
Somehow I have the same national rank for OH single and clock single, despite being way better at OH.

Nice! There are less people with a result in Clock which is why.

View attachment 34602I know it’s not the biggest achievement ever but I successfully memorised and solved edges blindfolded. I didn’t try to do corners yet but I’m still very proud of myself. Also, please behold the mat which I got signed by Robert Yau, Feliks Zemdegs and Tymon Kolasiński at comp.
That actually is a great achievement! Edges are harder than corners so you'll get a full success soon.
