Idea for timing regulations

Frame by frame analysis for every solve seems kind of wild.

This is a small but dumb idea, but what if there was a mandatory requirement for thumb placement on the timer before the solve starts? That would likely solve a lot of the issues that we have been having in many events where sliding is starting to become an issue.

I know this probably doesn't merit a forum, but I still felt like I wanted to bring it up.

We could switch back to gen 4. I think it would be harder to slide since there’s less surface on that timer to slide.

Maybe enabling four pad mode on gen 5. And requiring thumbs be placed on the back of the center of the timer on gen 4 could be considerations.

I know it's asymmetrical, but it would make the hobby more equitable to keep the hobby accessible.

I fully support mandating 4-pad on Gen5 timers.

However, the WCA will have to fund large amounts of equipment for poorer communities. I'm not even sure if the WCA has enough money to do this, even with the heavy discount delegates can get from Speed Stacks

My two cents is having a "pseudo four pad" position on gen four timers to compensate.

Like, we could have pseudo four-pad mode (Two pad mode but still require cubers to put their fingers on the thumb pads either way) for the time being.

Me feeñ lkke it good idea btu the wr for thingys like 2x2 and pyra would get harder to get bc you spending mlre time picking up coob (I think)

Do we go for resetting the WRs for short events when we switch to 4-pad mode?

Leaning more to no; we didn't need to reset records when the requirement to cover the cube after inspection was lifted, nor did we need to do that when stickerless cubes became competition legal.

Maybe besides the 0.78, I don't see a reason to reset anything.

My idea is that we require thumbs to be on the thumb pads on gen 5 timers and for thumbs to be placed on the middle of the timer on gen 4, not that four pad mode is actually enabled.

I know it seems kind of ridiculous, but the idea is so that more people can participate in the hobby without having to worry about getting the most up to date equipment.
