How long where you cubing until you went to your first comp.

For me it was 6 months but I taught my friend at school how to solve cube and he went to his first comp Hampshire autumn 2024 2 weeks later and got a 58.64 average!!!
Ive been cubing for about 1 year 9 months now, and still havent went to a comp yet.
I plan to in July tho so nearly 2 friggin years

Also why is everyone sub 20 only like 4 months into cubing yet i struggled to be sub 50 then. I didnt get a sub 20 solve until Nov 2024 which was about 7 months ago.
And that solve is still like top 10 solve ive ever done
I need to get sub 20.
Im learning oll
Even though i didnt want to until i got to a point where my next goal was sub 15

Took me a solid 2 and half years, their werent many in the area and my parents weren't crazy on it. Still haven't been to a second, although I'm planning to hopefully later this year

I started cubing in July of 2024 where I only knew pyraminx, learned how to solve a cube in August. Went to my first comp on March 1st and got a 19.09 average. My goal was to just get sub 20 and make 2nd round, which I did do. What I did not know is that I technically won my first comp getting first place for newcomers since it was newcomer month :)
For my standards today, averaging about 16, this average is not very good for me, where my very next comp where it was only 8 days later, I got a 16.39 average. After that round, I got a 23.91 average having 2 solves being judged by Carrot Guke :)

I think about 15 years between learning to solve and going to my first competition.

I went to my first competition (Brisbane Newcomers 2025) 3 months after I started cubing, and got an average of 27 secs - which is nearly 10 seconds slower than what I average at home now - (only 3 months later) - and managed to get third place for newcomer 3x3 average (this will probably be my only ever certificate seeing as it's very unlikely that I'll be getting a top 3...)!
