Hi

I want to speedcube, I am using layer by layer method and i would like to know what a good speedcubing method is. I like simple methods, so nothing that requires me to remember alot of algorithms. I know methods like fridrich and petrus but they seem too hard. (maybe because the guides on youtube are crap)

whats is your method, how fast are you solving the rubiks cube and what method should i choose?
please help
thanks

He has a lot of videos (fridrich) and they WILL help you. Check out the one called "introduction to speedcubing" or something.

So either you do that, or you can go to youtube.com/cubes4lyfe for tutorials on roux, the videos are in his playlists. <--- roux doesn't need many algs

@20four7n you can't expect to learn a method willy nilly, becoming good at it takes time and pracitse, if you look up badmephisto you will learn the simplest form of Fridrich and all that. By the way I average around 15-20 secons using Fridrich (without full OLL)

All speed methods are..what you call..."hard". Do not expect a fast method to be like just doing R U R' U'

If you don't want to memorize lots of algorithms, (and you don't like youtube videos) then I suggest Petrus

I dont mind youtube videos, its just that hen they are explaining hard(er) methods they don't explain clearly, is roux a good/fast method?

That would depend on how good you are on blockbuilding and turning the M slice, but sub-15 is possible, and there are sub-10 averages on youtube
fix'd

BTW roux and petrus have less algs the fridrich(78 compulsory) but they still have 42 algs. And they are harder to recognise too.

What method is best for you depends on what you are good at. I there was a "best" method , we would all use it.

Well, I am OK at making a cross - about 8 - 10 seconds, I am pretty much below average everything else, I am not too good at remembering algorithms, and i am terrible and intuitive parts of a speed solving method, because i keep messing things up.

Do you feel you are better at intuitive blockbuilding etc or learning algorithms?
you should choose your method based on your answer

is roux a good/fast method?
It's not as fast as CFOP, although it might be able, there might be one person who can average sub 10 with roux, idk
I do enjoy using roux, although i suck at it, I would start with fridrich (CFOP) and if that isn't really working for you, switch over.

Ok. Try all of these. I use Roux btw... I love it cuz im good at blockbuilding. But I suck at alg execution :/
Please try ALL of them before making the decision, as it will decide your whole cubing whatchamacallit.
NONE OF THEM ARE FASTER THAN THE OTHERS; JUST DIFFERENT.

Roux- I use for regular speedsolving, and one handed.
Petrus- I use sometimes for OH when I don't feel like using Roux.
ZZ- I use for OH and sometimes for speedsolving.
CFOP- I never use this.

others to explore are...
Heise- Interesting method, I use for speedsolving sometimes
Human thistlethwaite- very very interesting method, reducing the cube into sub-groups and it's pretty cool for understanding of generators.
Corners first- Will give you a base for roux.

Try the big four first and see which is best; if you need help with Roux, or Petrus, or Heise, PM me.
And possibly CFOP, but I'm only sub-20 with that.

I dont mind youtube videos, its just that hen they are explaining hard(er) methods they don't explain clearly, is roux a good/fast method?
I do beg you to try it. I use it myself and it's very interesting.
Don't bother about which is fastest. All can be fast, don't you worry.

when i use intuitive blockbuilding i always mess things up, and learning algorithms is frustratingly hard... what would you recommend based on my answers??

@5BLD
I always mix up what i already have done when i use intuitive block building.... I cant remember algorithms very well either, thank you for helpful and detailed response though.

Ya, well try not to; maybe even put your hand over what you have already done to stop you from breaking the block?

btw, I am good at learning algs, but executing them is a different story...

Blasphemy!
