A new progression thread!!! No way these are overdone right?
My current global with the ZZ method is high 8. Let’s get that number down. My ultimate goal is to become world class (sub6), but obviously I’m a ways away from that, so we’ll start with a smaller goal. Let’s say sub8 for now.
I’ve recorded and reconstructed an ao25 already (you can view it here), which has been published on zzmethod.com. The average was 9.00 (or 8.91 of I didn’t +2 an 8.64), which isn’t anything special for me, but it’s pretty decent (I get really nervous when recording solves). From it I’ve learned a couple things about my weak points and what I’ll need to change to break the sub-8 barrier. The three main issues that I’ve identified are:
Solutions to these problems:
F2L lookahead
I will post all achievements I make towards my goals, and post a weekly summary of accomplishments and progress every Friday (UTC+9:30)
Wish me luck!

- My F2L lookahead is awful. I have a really bad habit of looking at the pair I’m solving, and when I try to look at other pieces, my brain doesn't know where to look.
- My ZBLL needs improvement. There are many algs that I need to drill more, and I don’t know how to predict AUF for a lot of cases. I use BH from one angle, which isn’t bad, but at my level, I think I should be starting to learn alternative angles to avoid preauf.
- My EOCross-F2L transition is not good. I usually look to the back immediately.
Solutions to these problems:
F2L lookahead
- I can do untimed solves where I focus specifically on solving as smoothly as possible and not looking to the back
- I can learn to get better at piece deduction
- I can force myself not to look at the pair I am looking at.
- I can do untimed solves where I consciously think about smart pair choice (solving back pairs first will make lookahead easier)
- I can learn BH from the U2 angle. This means I will never need to do a U2 for preauf again, and if I’m smart about the direction I preauf, I can avoid it often.
- I can learn AUF stickers for all the cases. I already know them for many cases, but there are many for which I cannot predict auf. I should learn to.
- I can relearn cases with better algs (I’ve mostly optimized my T and U algs but L, Pi, and H need some work, especially L).
- I can learn the sune sets to save time.
- I can practice inspection and try to track first pair every solve, and plan it on nice scrambles
- I can get better at piece deduction so I don’t have to peek at the back
