Anybody used to having some really bad F2L days? If so how do you usually go about fixing the problem? I had a terrible day yesterday (averaging over 35s per solve, F2L being over 20s). I had yet another terrible run today, until I did my second run of 12.

Here are my times:

First run:
51.67 29.88 37.70 35.23 24.95 28.14 39.61 39.78 32.25 31.80 55 31.19

F2L:
23 17 23 27 15 18 27 27 17 21 30+ 20

avg5: 34.61
avg12:35.73

Second Run:
36.77 34.88 36.83 33.53 32.19 28.86 27.08 24.56 41.58 30.95 29.84 30.44

F2L:
20+ 24 28 22 22 19 18 14 21 17 21 22

avg5: 30.41
avg12: 32.14

I guess what's important is mattering: I'm trying to slowly average under 30 seconds, and my first run was 35.73 second was 32.14. But my issue are these incredibly long F2L's. The day before yesterday, for a week solid, I was doing 15-19 second F2L.

Any idea why this all of a sudden shot up?

it happens nothing to worry about, just keep practicing as much as you can. You will improve and your times will decrease. Just try not to rush take your time slow and smooth is better than fast and choppy

I had a terrible one today. I did an average of 100 and I was 2 seconds worse than normal (average was 26.99 - my worst average in several months). There were a few really bad LLs, but mostly it was just terrible F2L. I wasn't looking ahead successfully at all, and if I consciously tried to "go slow and look ahead", all I would do is go slow and still fail at looking ahead, so my times would be even slower. Towards the end I just quit trying and my times got a little better (even though my lookahead was still bad).

I'm trying not to get too frustrated - usually for me it means I'm likely to have a really good day tomorrow. :)

I have terrible F2L days. What I do to counter it is to do slow solves where I don't finish solving one pair until I have found the next pair. Once I find the next pair, I can speed up but if I haven't found it, I go really slow.

After doing this for a while, I gradually increase my speed and usually my F2L goes back to normal.

My F2L is always bad after practicing PLLs because I don't think about it, I just try to move my fingers as fast as possible. I need to use more brain power and less finger power...

The cube is actually rather new. It's a store bought, but after one day of solving (had some sore fingers after that) and a few small squirts of CRC it loosened up quite a bit. I find that store boughts treat me incredibly well after a little bit of breaking in + CRC.

I think it might have been me trying to do it without thinking about it (like the magic). I was wide awake during the whole process, was unable to sleep at all. I might start doing Dan Knight's trick and find the second pair before finishing the insertion of the next pair. To me it seems no different than solving a pair though then looking, either way you stop to look ahead. Point is, it's worth a shot since my way isn't working!

Many people have bad days! I think it happens when you are not in the mood and lazy to think.

I think the good news is that if you had been able to average a certain time X in say 50 solves (at least 12 but something like 50 is more accurate), it means your capability is at least time X, and you can get back to that time on a good day. You cannot average 50 solves by luck.

So just try another day.
