Any tips for handling epoxy filler?

I know that this is a little bit off topic, but please continue reading.
I’m currently modding a 5x5 to make a 5x5x3.
I’m considering cutting the top and bottom off, but that needs epoxy filler.
Is it worth the danger? How should I handle the filler?

Not entirely sure but pretty sure without the top layer, the rest will not turn smoothly if not falling apart. Have you done anything like this before?

Nah. There are tutorials on YouTube, and I wish to follow them.

It's better to cap with plastic sheet. I have no idea what "danger" you are worried about though.
