Advice/tips for OH beginner

Hi, I'm interested in learning OH and would like to acquire some constructive advice/tips before start.

Background:
I've been cubing for a year, 3-style is my main method because it's intuitive. I know CFOP but have never practiced it much.

Here are my OH goals:
1. No table abuse because I just want to do it for fun
2. Sub 20-25 with good amount of practice

Here are some questions:
1. What will be a good method to achieve my goals? Any link to that method / OH tutorial will be greatly appreciated
2. I heard that Roux is a good OH method, but it seems to have a lot of M moves, does that imply intensive table abuse?
3. Any cube requirement for OH? I have a basic GAN 356 M
4. Any general OH advice/tips are welcome!

Thanks

Im just a beginner in OH, so not all my advices may be the best fo a sub 20 level but I just learned it recently so I can tell from my own experience.
My goal is to get sub 45 or 40 which is usually the cutoff time in most competitions in my area

  • Try to find your optimal hand for OH. Right handers usually use the left because most algs use a lot of R moves
  • OH is quite exhausting for your hand if you are not used to it. So start slowly and then increase practising if you get used to it.
  • Try to practice all your algs. You will experience that some work well and others not.
Especially algs with many L moves and wide moves are not optimal. You may want to replace them
    Feliks has a good algsheet
but sometimes you find a better one on
  • I'm not a roux solver but I think they use the table for M-Moves.
I've replaced my slice algs with R/U/F algs.
Doing S-Moves can also be an option instead of M-Moves without table
  • For me a low movecount is sometimes better than good fingertricks.
In normal 3x3 I sometimes use algs with triple sexy because I can execute them fast.
In OH tend to use Algs with lower movecount
  • For Cubes, I think it is most important that they turn lightly. Good Magnets are also important but not too strong because in this case you also need more force to turn. You can also use smaller cubes but if your hands are not too small and you practice with normal cubes, standard size will do.
  • Use the slower turning for better lookahead.
  • When you have found your optimal algs, practice them alot to find and improve your optimal fingertricks.
  • Practice, practice, practice...
  • Watching youtube videos can also help
