Aw, that does not look fun. :-(

I've had the same happen to me, but never this bad.

Is there a reason Stackmats have a propensity to do this on important solves? Is it that competitors just let go too fast, and "near misses" are more likely to turn into actual misses?

Maybe he could try actually putting his hands down on the timer for longer than 1 millionth of a second. Ive had a gen3 timer for a year now and after countless solves had never had a stopping fail, random reset/turn off or had it fail to start.

well, he had a fail like that though. nice that you hadnt had that happen but as you can see he hitted the timer with both hands and it didnt stop, it wasnt his fault.

No we can't.
One of the pads is hidden behind the cube cover.

Another possible explanation is that people might have a propensity to point this out and show around on important solves.

I've also seen it reset itself, but it wasn't a fast solve by any means, so it was a resolve (it was under .05 anyway)

This really sucks though
