All I have left to complete is the three middle edge layers(I have all the centers done). Instead of pairing up three edge pieces at the same time I would just like to be able to lift edge pieces from the second layer to the fourth layer, and also move the middle edge pieces around the cube without messing up the rest of the cube. Thank you.

A bit confusing, but I'll give it a shot.
The thing that you want to do for the L4E (Last four edges) is a variant on the Freeslice method. You connect two pieces using Uw and Dw moves and then flip the entire edge with the algorithm R U R' F R' F' R and then slice back to preserve the centers.
Once you get to the L2E, use the algorithm guide to finish the edges.

Hope this is relevant and helps, there are tons of tutorials on YouTube for L4E
