4x4 Help, trying to be sub 1:10

Hi, so I'm a bit far from 1:10 right now, and I did a average of 12 with Husky Omega's timer (I retyped the separate times into Jnet so it's easier to see).

Centers: (12.27), 17.39, 19.97, (27.62), 18.77, 16.34, 12.36, 20.64, 12.56, 19.02, 19.13, 20.94 = 17.71 average

Edges: 37.06, 36.39, 33.47, 32.63, 36.06, 30.80, 36.77, (30.33), (45.94), 41.00, 35.11, 32.66 = 35.19 average

3x3: (49.12), (27.56), 34.41, 31.39, 40.30, 33.22, 37.94, 34.59, 34.94, 30.64, 39.75, 33.08 = 35.03 average

Overall: (1:38.45), 1:21.34, 1:27.84, 1:31.64, 1:35.13, (1:20.36), 1:27.06, 1:25.56, 1:33.44, 1:30.81, 1:33.98, 1:26.67 = 1:29.35 average (SD: 4.37)

What should I work on ? I don't really solve 4x4 much, so I don't know what breakdowns should be good, thanks!

I use a Rubik's 4x4, which I just lubed today, and is now much better.

Edges is the easiest part to improve on at your stage (and mine, too, maybe 1:22 Average, breakdown about 19,28,35).
Chris Hardwick once had the idea to really solve the edges with as few moves as possible, even if it takes 15 minutes per solve. Don't know if that works, but that's what I will try tomorrow.
I don't know how to get faster on the 3x3 part, whenever I feel I want to solve a 3x3 I grab my 4x4 and use it as 3x3, just to get better on that part, but that doesn't help. I usually average about 21-22 seconds on the 3x3, maybe 30 seconds for the 4x4-3x3 (you know what I mean) is okay then, what do you think?
I need to catch up to Lucas Garron for the National Records :D
And I still can't believe that people are fast with Rubik's 4x4s. Mine is very fast for inner slices, but unusable for outer layers. But the Eastsheen isn't perfect, too...

Back when I still had a functional 4x4 (and not the piece of crap I have now), my breakdowns were roughly 12/22/23... Work on edges. :p

I'd have to say, Tim, your 3x3 stage is much more impressive than your edges, although your edges are quite nice.

My breakdown right now is something like this:
13/25/32

I'm hovering around 1:10 right now. I think I could do an avg of 12 sub 1:10 if I actually sat down to do one. I will do that tonight.

anyway, as far as your times go, just practice. You say you don't solve it much, that is the problem. Your centers can drop a couple seconds pretty easily, your edges can drop a good 5 seconds easily, and your 3x3 stage could go down some, depending on how fast you are with a regular 3x3. It takes me more than double the time to solve the 3x3 on a 4x4 than just solving a 3x3. I know, it is pretty sad.

I think I have a very similar breakdown and I would like to average sub1:10 soon. Let's race towards that.

For me it means preparing a good cube for better turning in general and much improved lookahead during edges. Or coming up with a new method.

thats like what I get on my rubik's, but on an eastsheen I get frequent sub-1:10s

EDIT, idk what edge method you use but 2 > 6 when it comes to speed... in my experience anyway

Yeah, I need a cube to do this again. :(

Thanks for the responses guys!

The good feeling of a lubed 4x4, makes me want to improve.

Alex: I pair 2 edges at a time. I don't know why but I pair very slow.

Okay! I like motivation! :D

I just did one average and found out that I'm a bit faster than I thought, 1:20.47 with times from 1:15.93 to 1:34.15. Might be thanks to the somewhat better cube, though. But now I want to beat Lucas officially.

Better cube as in? Eastsheen ?

I just tried an average of my splits and here's what I came up with:
Centers:
(11.93), 15.91, 15.46, 14.80, 12.65, 15.72, (16.58), 12.06, 14.77, 12.61, 15.03, 12.41= 14.14
Edges:
24.47, 25.68, (18.81), 22.38, 23.06, 24.25, (29.50), 24.91, 21.53, 28.41, 22.65, 20.03= 23.74
3x3:
19.71, (19.58), 34.77, 31.78, 30.43, (36.66), 23.22, 33.61, 30.47, 32.58, 35.56, 26.58= 29.87
If you put them together...
(56.11), 1:01.17, 1:09.04, 1:08.96, 1:06.14,(1:16.63),1:09.30, 1:10.58, 1:06.77, 1:13.60, 1:13.24, 59.02= 1:07.78

I guess I'll have to work on my centers. I think I could beat this if I sat down and worked on 4x4 for a day, like I did with 3x3.

Wow, I REALLY need to work on my pairing. Are there any advice ? tutorials?

PJK, my 4x4 locks up a lot too, and it's hard to grip, sometimes sides slide a bit if you execute an algorithm. I hate it.

Ok, no more guessing and estimating... I finally measured my stages separately as well. Average of 10(12):

Centers: 15.88
Edges: 29.72
3x3: 34.72
----------
Sum: 1:20.32

If I combine the best of each stage to a dream solve I get:
11.40 + 18.72 + 26.59 = 56.71

Scrambling took me 29.78 on average, btw.
