Learn the parity alg

r U2 x r U2 r U2 r' U2 l U2 r' U2 r U2 r' U2 r'
You can turn the r moves into Rw moves, however it isn't a pure oll parity alg like the r move alg. (The Rw alg flips the front edge and twists the front left corner counter clockwise and the right corner clockwise, and also does a pure F perm with the bar at the back.) Also in the r move alg you have to add U2 R' L U2 at the end otherwise it messes up F2L.

Also you can memorize it like this: Rw U2 is what I call right up, Rw' U2 is what I call right down, Lw' U2 is what I call left up, and Lw U2 is what I call left down. So you start with doing right up, then you do an x rotation and then do right up twice, then you do right down followed by left down, then you do right down followed by right up, then right down twice. You can simplify this down to "right up, face down, right up twice, right down, left down, right down, right up, right down twice.)

I like to swap Rw with Lw', for mostly right handed U2.

Lowercase r can also be used to denote wide moves, e.g. as in SiGN notation (which is vastly superior to Singmaster notation for big cube speedsolving).
 
In 3x3 r is often used in replacement to Rw, but usually people use r to mean right side M slice in 4x4.
And they're wrong, using an old (very old!) convention that is quite provably inferior in most respects.

I think about notation a bunch.

1. Why have inconsistency between 3^3 notation and 4^3 notation when you can just not have inconsistency?
2. Wide moves are generally preferred over slice moves, and it only stands to reason that wide moves should get the more convenient notation.
3. Singmaster notation does not generalise very nicely to 6^3 and up.
4. The main software tools we have right now for doing cube reconstructions only support WCA notation and SiGN.

So does that mean that J perm teaches Singmster notation? That's where I learned move notation from.

There's a comp I want to go to in late September.
Cutoff for 4x4 is 2 attempts to get <1:10.
I currently average sub 2 minutes, using Redux.
Is it possible to grind this event and get sub-1:10 in that timeframe? I currently average 19s on 3x3.
Also, what methods/algs/techniques shold i learn?

First of all, it's < 1:10 not > 1:10 ;)

Learn Yau.

You may not be able to get to average consistently under 1:10 but you'll be able to get lots of singles under 1:10 and give yourself a shot. Generally, people average about 4x their 3x3 times on 4x4. That puts you at 1:16 on 4x4. 3+ months is plenty of time to learn Yau and become fluent.

In other words, go for it, this is very do-able.

Definitely doable. You just have to be willing to put in the work.
 
My A0100 for 3x3 is around 24 Seconds and my 4x4 Average around 1:30 with some singles close to 1:10.

You are around 20% faster in 3x3, so I think it could be possibe. (90s/24*19=71s)

I think it's like Tabe said.
Constantly under 1:10 could be hard but some singles are definitly doable, maybe even a good average if you put enough time in it.

Yau is the way to do it 😉
