4BLD is cooking my brain (Yann1qua12DagOat's progression thread)

I started cubing around the beginning of this year, and I have already improved quite a lot, and have even gone to a couple of competitions. I now have 1000 cstimer solves for 3x3, but other than that I only practise 4x4 a bit, so I might start a third event which I already have at home. It would be cool to have a thread where I maybe post 1 message per month of how my times have been going, and it could end up being quite cool (or very strange...). I have a YJ YuHu Megaminx, some type of magnetic MoYu Skewb, and a QiYi clock. Which one should I practise?1000_solves.png

Skewb (not biased)

Thanks for the replies guys (I honestly didn't think that anyone would see the thread so thanks!). When I got my skewb I intuitively solved it and therefore it was very boring for me (because my method was basically spamming sledges until I got a triple-sledgehammer case...). Around a week ago, though, I got my 1000 3x3 solves and wanted to do something different because I'd only been practising 3x3 and 4x4. So, I decided to learn the intermediate skewb method (with the diamond and pi cases for OLL and the H and U perms for PLL). I didn't learn the Z perm (to lazy to learn skewb notation) but practising skewb automatically got more fun. So maybe I will try to get into skewb a bit. On the other hand, I think megaminx is cool, but there are just SO MANY last layer algorithms, and I really suck at finding pieces. Also, I find it really hard to turn fast. Therefore I'll probably stick to my 3x3, 4x4, and a bit of skewb for this month and see where that gets me.
Here's my 4x4 progress as of today (the start of May).4x4.png

Glad to hear that, if you need any help with skewb, you can always DM me😉

I was sick today, which meant I could just do some relaxing stuff, including a bit of cubing. But it turns out, I did around 60 3x3 solves (my 9th solve turning out to be a 11.06 PB single), and then decided to practise some 4x4 cause why not.... and this happened

(for context, I have been averaging around 1:10 lately).wth.png

This was absolutely nuts, seeing as my best time before this session was 55 seconds! Of course, I continued for a bit, hoping to keep on getting times like this, but my hands were shaking so much, so the times got worse (still around 1:05 though.....).
I will keep practising, and then keep posting random stuff about my strange progression!!!

Alright! I now have 500 solves for my 4x4 session, and I have made a document where I put in all my PBs and PRs (it will most likely need constant changing, but it'll be relatively accurate I hope...) so you can see those. I also have 50 megaminx solves, so I have been doing that a bit too. That's all for now, but I will paste the link right here ----> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s0YAHwJz62De42cMTZd0QqohZyq04Z2MvLs1he9vo_8/edit?usp=sharing

I have set the status for anyone who clicks on the link to commenter, so if you would like to you can give me feedback directly on the page!

I haven't posted on this thread for quite a while, but here is my progress as of the second of June. For 3x3 I am now easily averaging under 20 seconds (actually around 17), and I have 1350 solves in total. I have noticed that whenever I am spamming TPS as fast as I can I generally get good times as long as there aren't too many lockups. This is because my F2L lookahead has also improved a lot and now I can turn faster while doing it. The Time Trend function shows a very satisfying picture of how my times have been getting faster.

For 4x4 I have also been solving faster, as I now aim to get 1-2 sub 1 min solves per practise session and always end up succeeding. My Vin 4x4 is now broken in very nicely and I can really start to turn really smoothly and everything is going pretty well in general. The reason why I'm trying to get sub 1 minute is because in October I am doing the Australian Nationals comp, at which I'll get 2 attempts for a sub-1 min solve. I'm pretty confident that I'll be averaging well under the 1 minute mark by then, so yeah :)

I got just over 50 megaminx solves as well, but that was in the first half of the month and I haven't done a lot of that since. Also, I was averaging around 5.3 secs for 2x2 when I did my very minimal amount of practise for that.

WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?!?!! I JUST GOT A SUB - 10 3X3 SINGLE!!!!!!!
Here's the scramble: D R2 F B' L F' D2 L2 D F B2 L2 F' L2 U2 F' D2 B U2 B'
I did exactly this solution:
z2 y' // inspection
U' R' F D2 // cross
U' R U2 R' y L U L' // first pair
y U' L U L' // second pair
U2 L' U L U2 L' U L // third pair
R U' R' // F2L finished
r U R' U R U2 R' // OLL
U R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F' U // PLL
51 moves in total
9.39s
5.43 TPS (that's amazing for me for a whole solve).
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
SUB 10!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!.png

Sub 10 averaging 17 is insane, congrats!

I have now learnt full PLL!!! Today I spent nearly 2 hours learning and training Nb perm and the 4 G perms. I am very happy that I can now go to sleep! I hope to learn full OLL by the end of the week maybe (I have 11 more algs - the awkward shapes and the dot cases, minus the X one)? Then I have learnt full CFOP and this will be a huge moment in my progression!
