I do 4 freeslice, then throw 2 edges in the back with R' U R L U' L', then solve the last 4 as normal.

That sounds pretty harsh. Sorry. I would certainly stick by the suggestion that instead of inserting the middle tredge piece when it's easy to insert wings instead. Not only because midges (is that the correct terminology?) are always easy to insert regardless of their orientation, but you also...

Me? I see the cross tredge stage as the least efficient step of Hoya and IMO freeslice is better than AVG (at least for me) which is why I consider it to be true. For me the reason I'm doing Hoya is to skip cross, which was always awful for me, and to make the freeslice step easier to find...

I just had a look to see how Jong-Ho and Rob have done compared to each other in their 3 most recent common competitions (World's, ABhC and Notts (I hope I didn't miss any between those)). Hoya is up 5-4 I'm not implying that that means anything, I was just curious.

For 4x4 I always have red on L and orange on R in either order 1st. Try to do blue before 'white' unless it's impractical to do so to give myself a look at what will become D as I finished the 'white' centre. 5x5 I start with anything except 'white' or yellow, do the opposite colour, then try...

Great comp! Thanks organisers. Maybe DYKs to come. So pleased I managed a pb in my final round. I'm sure I'll lose my streak soon because my WCA page is looking really good for me now. I should probably practice occasionally.

What is your 3x3 average? If less than 30 and you practice a lot in then next month then it's possible. Drill your parity algs to get them as fast as possible.

How many people who currently organise comps in the Midlands of England or further North? 2? You could possibly argue Cambridge is pushing Midlands so 3 including Joey. Where have 2 of the last 6 comps been held? Manchester. A 3rd in Cambridge. This is not a UKCA issue. It's an issue with...

Or find some people to share with and 2 nights becomes cheaper than 1. Roman is apparently bringing a friend. £84/3 < £42

Just for info purposes I just booked a 2 adult and 2 child room (1 double and 2 single beds) for the Fri and Sat night for only £84. Exeter Central St David's. Get in quick while it's still cheap I guess.
