    mefferts 5x5

ok...i've had it with my rubiks 5x5. i've been practicing a lot more on it since i got a puppy and spend an amazing amount of time outside waiting for him to do his thing. anyway, during the centers the cube is ok, but when i go to edges and start doing simple R' F R F' moves, it jams if it's...

    7x7

a few weeks ago i emailed olympic cubes to find out the ETA of the 6x6. in their response that i received today, they noted a No. 7. is this true? are they planning on a 7x7 also? of course, i've emailed back to them to ask, but it took 3 weeks for this first response. so, i assume it'll be...

    5x5 problem question

my rubiks 4x4 is ridiculously fast, but it "hard locks". i.e. if it is not positioned perfectly in alignment, it won't budge. i assume that sanding some of the pieces would help, but i'm not familiar with the process. can someone shed some light?

    5x5 problem question

i'm using rubiks. i bought both my 4x4 and 5x5 prior to knowing about eastsheen. i suppose i should breakdown and buy a couple eastsheens.

    5x5 problem question

i'm not adding any answers to this, but i have to agree. i haven't broken any pieces yet, but the center corners are a huge problem. i tend to solve slower than i could in order to make sure i don't break anything. the center edges occasionally decide to rocket across the room. no big deal...

    New 5x5x5 and 6x6x6 Review

frank, i watched the vids of you solving the 5x5 and 6x6. had you lubed those already or is that how they are out of the box? any word on when these will be available?

    Stickers vs Tiles

someone gave me a junky old cube with tiles on it. i removed the tiles and tried it out on my worst speed cube. i really didn't care for it. (aside from inherent differences between the cubes) it felt like i was driving a mack truck compared to my other speed cubes with stickers. again, its...

    How did you start Speedcubing?

my girlfriend finally got into it. she learned how to do an intuitive f2l and has been doing it for several months. she loves to problem solve and is really drawn to the centers and edges of the 4x4 and 5x5. she refused to learn any of the last layer algs (or any algs at all). i reduced the...

    disassembling 2x2

i was recently given a 2x2 as a promo from a vendor i work with. i've ordered the normal stickers for it, but it's RIDICULOUSLY stiff. i've used the rubik's lube and 'injected' it into the center. it helped a bit but not much. bottom line: can you take these things apart?

    Tightening a face....

if it's not DIY or a really old cube, you will probably find a rivet rather than a screw. then you're out of luck. the diy's have a center piece cap that is the entire face of the center piece. ie the cap extends beyond the sticker and wraps around the edge. you should see a line there to...

    Recognizing these PLLs

this is how i memorized these. 2 cases have a corner and the edge to the left and 2 cases have a corner and the edge to the right. That's easy to recognize. now for deciding which of the 2 appropriate algs to use, look at the next logical corner piece and determine if the 2 colors (not...

    Disassembling 4x4 and 5x5

all the recent talk about 4x4 piqued my interest and i'm back to messing around with my 4x4. I'd like to lube both my 4x4's and 5x5's, but i don't know where the breaking point is (eg any edge on the 3x3). help...? also, is there anything special about either 4x4 or 5x5? is it ok to lube...

D layer color - White vs. Green

well, i tried to use white bottom layer solve and basically doubled my time (from 47 sec avg to over 1:30). after 1 year of cubing, i am completely used to GREEN bottom and BLUE top and have no major problems with it. and i can easily translate diagrams/algs from the web that are using a...

D layer color - White vs. Green

I started cubing using the little 7-step guide that came with my cube. it used Green as the D layer. i got used to it and stuck with it. i soon after noticed that most everyone uses White as the D layer. Arguably, White is FAR easier to spot than is Green. any thoughts? after all this...

    new tricks

i have been using dan harris' site www.cubestation.co.uk for F2L algs. initially, i was using an intuitive method which was good, but i developed plenty of bad habits. other than dan's site are there others out there that are really good for F2L? i've been moving into my new house during...

    next step for F2L

this brings up a subject that i haven't thought about. do you guys look for corners first and then their corresponding edges? or the reverse? i realize now that i ALWAYS see the corner and then search for the corresponding edge. i don't know if it makes a difference at all...its just what i...

    next step

good idea. i've got a few vids, but they aren't posted anywhere. i'll work on that and let you guys know. as i work on these, i'm going to use dan harris' site to get the algs going and watch what is happening to the cube. for you F2L masters, when you were learning these, did you actually...

Where can I find a good cube

i bought one. it was #9 to be exact. i hadn't learned of the replacement stickers yet (that was a $90 mistake!!!...i guess eventually we get better at every aspect of cubing). the stickers on the 25 year cube lasted me 3! days. i was quite surprised at how fast it was out of the box. with...
