Yesterday I held a class at my local HackSpace on how to solve the Rubik's Cube.

I taught badmephisto's beginners' method (http://badmephisto.com/begsoln/) and it was rather well received with a number of people saying that this was the...
For the past 48hrs I've been following John McAllister's Asteroids World Record attempt...

Still going strong and currently #3 highest score ever recorded.
For some unknown reason my CCT 0.9.5 refuses to recognise any pyraminx scrambles I try to import. Other scramble customisations are fine but all pyraminx scrambles are marked as bad - even the simplest, e.g. just a R
Anybody else have this issue?
Found on the MIT news website today: cube sized satellites with a new propulsion system.

Apparently you can have one launched for as little as $8000 USD :D
Finally I can replace my shoddy C4U stickers on the Gigaminx - quite a few of the tiny edge stickers have lost their top layer and colour!

I don't know how many people will have seen this already (mentioned on slashdot on 17th Nov) but I'll share anyway: there have been some amazing images "discovered" in the search for a true 3D Mandelbrot set.
Take a look at http://www.skytopia.com/project/fractal/mandelbulb.html for lots of...
Sorry if this has been asked before (not really sure what to search for!)
I'm a beginner using Old-Pochmann and I have a single flipped edge cycle such as the following situation (scrambed with White on U, Green on F) :-
R U R D B F' L' R' F2 D' B F D L2 F' D2 U B' F2 D' R F L' R' F'
OK, I...
I returned home from work today and was shocked to find my new Holy-Megaminx has been delivered already...
The usual Meffert's mail-order packaging: -
With tiles and glue: -
See-through!
Relative size: fits on my ring-finger!
Moves great - might respond well to cubelube -...
Consistent solves for a repeated scramble? (boring - deleted)
(I tried to delete the thread (nobody is interested!) but the delete option is not visible - could some kind moderator please tidy up after me? Thank you for your patience :D )

At the moment it's just a means to register interest - I think the 12 colour Holey Minx will be rather popular!
OK, I've realised that there's something quite wrong with the Rubik's Clock I recently received into my collection: one of the corner clocks points at 11 when all the others point at 12! This is clearly wrong -- as far as I understand (and I admit I don't understand much about this thing :) )...
I was just watching an episode of the LG Action Sports on the Extreme Sports Channel and I saw a section on Daniel Dhers and he solves a 3x3x3 in there! I did a bit of searching and I found it on YouTube: he mentions his love of the cube at about 0:40.00 and there's a speeded-up solve. I just...
I have just returned from an evening at the cinema where I saw the excellent "Låt den rätte komma in" ("Let The Right One In") which had quite a sequence of scenes where the Rubik's Cube was involved - apparently Swedish vampires are good at working out puzzles. Eli, one of the main characters...
I've pretty much wasted an afternoon here at work trawling on Google Street View around my neighbourhood in Nottingham and then over in the suburbs of Amsterdam. I'm very pleased with the look of my house and I can tell from the state of the place that it was probably taken some time in spring...
I came home from work tonight to find that my latest puzzle had arrived. It's an original Nintendo Ten-Billion Barrel (in the original container too) and it's a brilliant puzzle. It took a good few ebay auctions to win one!
I'm blown away by how well made it is and it moves beautifully for a...
Sorry it's a bit short notice but I'll be at the Nottingham Juggling Convention tomorrow if anyone wants to say hello, trade puzzles, or just laugh at my poor juggling/poor cubing, etc.
I just had to buy this - its claims are most amusing. I shall give this to my niece for Xmas!
It is nice to see the term "speedcubing" entering mainstream culture.
BTW: it's a horrible cube! It might move OK when I lube it. Who knows, it may turn out to be brilliant! :D
