I'm sorry to point out that it's actually two types of practice you have there; the essential difference is that the balisong can be performed without looking (muscle memory only) but the pyraminx can't ... essentially, you can practice a routine on the knife and perform it while doing anything...

Yep; you're always very observant with these things, and once again you got it bang on. It also works well on 4x4, and there's other variations, but this is probably the most straight forward. What you lose in taking the extra time to solve the M edges, you gain by restriction of your remaining...

I learnt it; though it took a while, and it slowed me down at first, it has improved my times. I suggest you go through it one colour at a time ... say 50 cubes each colour.
