I was mainly active 12ish years ago, and attempted to come back 6 years ago with minimal success. Happy to post my link here anyway, some of my old stuff is pretty cringe 😂

They don't necessarily have to be already matched to be an easy case. If when you solve your cross the way you normally would you have a set of 2 pieces belonging to a pair that can be matched/inserted in a few moves, that's also an easy case. Similarly, if you can modify your cross by a few...
I think color neutrality is extremely valuable to becoming great at 3x3. Yes it is very possible to get sub 10, and maybe even sub-8 with Single color cross (or maybe single color + opposite), but there are just so many extremely good cases presented to you when you're color neutral.
Pros of...
"Are youngins really that bad?"
Short answer: No, but sometimes yes.
Many of us got started in cubing when we would be considered 'youngins' and as such we need to take annoyances, fake claims, and exaggerated accomplishments with a grain of salt. I would be skeptical if anyone honestly said...
My mother and late father both were initially unaware, but then extremely supportive of the hobby, especially so when they saw the 'fruits of the labor' so to speak. Me making, uploading, and building my YouTube channel to a size they thought was respectable was a goal of mine, and their friends...
Yeah I saw those, and excluded them as being too far D= I was kind of hoping any of the Stanford/Berkeley guys might be hosting some, but Stanford has been off the map for a year or two and Berkeley since February.
Hey,
I recently moved to San Jose and would love to attend some cube comps :)
Are there any (tentatively) planned in the near future? I checked WCA website with no success.
Cheers,
Chris
I really need good lighting to solve at my normal speed (14-17 seconds). I use a bright set of stickers to aid in darker places as well, sometimes competitions aren't well-lit or the lighting is weird.
I bought a specific lamp to use when cubing which is what I have gotten used to over the past...
I'll use the normal stickers for a while depending on the shade. Some cubes, like the old F2 came with a terribly close orange/yellow, which was nearly impossible for me to cube with.
Once I've decided to change my stickers, I'll switch to my standard White, Florescent Yellow, Bright Blue...
I have played Piano for almost 12 years now, and have dabbled in and around with Trumpet and Guitar here and there. I am by no means good at any of them, I just enjoy making music.
I ordered a black DIY of the cubic 3x3. I'll be making a review video of it when I can. I'm a little excited for the fact that it's a V-Cube, but I've got all the sanity to know it's probably going to be not all that great.
I don't think that V-Cubes made the smartest choice in terms of appealing to speed cubers, but I do think they made a very smart decision in terms of non-speedcubers. Their decision to appeal to a larger, less-dedicated group of people in my opinion, is a very smart one. 3x3 will always be the...
*Phew*
My breakdown (With an average of about 3:30) is as follows:
Centers: 1:30
Edges: 1:30
3x3 Solve: 30
My recommendation is this: Practice.
Now I know what you're thinking, but bear with me.
Dedicated practice to a puzzle will almost always make you faster, but if you have bad habits and...
I'm not quite sure I understand what method you use, but do you use reduction first, THEN do Fridrich? Or do you solve the bottom center, then the 4 edge pairs around it etc. If you do the latter (which is what it seems like from your post) I would recommend doing normal reduction.
Step 1...
I think people will always complain about a change no matter how good it is. We just need to wait for about 3-5 weeks for the initial "shock" dies down then ask people. I think we will get a much better read on how people actually feel about it.
