My cross practice cube

Here is my Monster Go cube made into a cross practice cube by replacing 4 corners with extra black ones from a second cube. I'm sure many have done this by removing stickers, but this s stickerless, which I like and is a reasonably good Gan made cube, non magnetic, but that's OK.
2nd pic is the 'UT' cube is based on.

I made one like that once, and one for F2L. Came in handy for a day or two until I got into the habit. Didn't last more than a day or two though. Then you learn to filter out the other pieces and see what you're looking for because you know they can only be in a few places.

Nice job though. Looks really good.

What's cool about it is you can learn one cross color at a time, instead of just white!

Yes fair enough, I saw one on YT and thought I'd make one. It may help me a bit, obviously you have to transfer anything learned to your full solving.
To the previous post, it's obviously only a white cross cube. I'll never be CN, so not really an issue for me.

I would have said the same back in march but im actually working on it now and its only 5ish secs slower than white cross. Just focus on only that

Totally agree with this. I only used my cross cube (I made by peeling off already peeling stickers) for a few days before practicing on a normal cube

Yes I guess it could happen. I have done different colours just too see how it goes and of course your recognition goes out the window. But practice would make it easier obviously.
You need to check all edge pieces for cn instead of just four for white (or your preferred colour), then decide which is the better option, all in 15 seconds. Which would be a big ask for me. I'm still trying to get my Ao100 under 30secs, ha ha!

Through my perspective it seems more natural to encompase the entirety (100%) of the cube rather than (33.3%) of it regarding the first two steps of the method CFOP yet it does bring one's solves to a halt kinda which is why I did my simple graphic ...lol

I'm, not pesonally trying to learn really quickly e.g. 4LLL to get low times say 20 seconds etc...

I am however, willing to learn stuff in a more complete understanding of CFOP with slow to decent executions, to eventually have more information as I'm solving, so basically I think it's a "parts to whole" type of analysis...

I guess in the present, I'm more a long term solver having fun with more information than someone who's just trying to get low scores hence it might just be fun to me to learn and play rather than perform!?

I like that graphic you've done there, quite helpful.
I still get plenty of enjoyment solving white cross first only, that's why I said I probably wouldn't attempt to go CN. Or learn full OLL, though I might try to learn full PLL eventually?
I've been solving on and off for nearly 40 years, I think where I am now I'm pretty happy with. Time is one of my main issues; I can't get 500 solves a day in, work gets in the way, although we have just gone into lockdown, so I think I'll be doing a lot more solving this week!! Ha ha..

I like what you have said, I remember promising myself over and over again to never learn CFOP then I was like, after solving the 2x2 - 7x7 and thinking maybe I can do the 4LLL and I did, and I was like ok well maybe I should go for full CFOP and started with full PLL and it took 5 months and my learning disability made it so hard and the recognition training was brutal then I figured out the one's I liked and now I'm kinda full PLL with the help of a excel cheat sheet that I did. Now I'm on the road or torture trail of the 57 OLL's and then of course also learning advanced F2L along the way and maybe in a few months when I think I'm ok at PLL, OLL and F2L I'll dive into the cross which to me seems the hardest atleast to try to do it real fast...

Basically I guess I thought if I was going to go for it I should go big time so when I do better I'd have all the stuff to do my best but I can appreaciate keeping it simple too...

I guess I'm just being positive not bragging as this stuff is so hard for me ...lol

Here's attatched Excel that I put all my algs, links and orientations...

Nice sheet there. I might print that out.
I've looked at the OLL algs and some are about as long as two of the 2 look algs! I've also seen a vid showing sub 20 more than possible with 4LLL. Which is a factor in my thought that I probably won't learn full OLL. Though I do have a couple of extra algs over and above the 2 look ones, just a case of coming across ones that appear good and efficient and adding them to my arsenal.

I've seen Jperm getting like 11 second times with 4LLL but of course their cross and F2L are very good...

Yes very true. I and I guess a lot of cubers can gain a lot more time simply by being more efficient with turning and recognition.
Easy to say! Ha ha.

Yes I fully agree, though if you look at marketing pictures for these cubes, they seem very much targeted at youngsters beginning their cube experience, rather than cubers a bit further on wanting to practice CFOP stages.
I'd like to find a yellow center cap for my cube now. Having bought two to make this, I don't want to buy a whole cube just for a center cap!
I might contact the ebay seller i bought these from...
