Has anyone done a pvc coating on their own cube?

I just got a Gan 356xs and the texture leaves a bit to be desired. I know there's a service that coats them for $25, but I really didn't want to do that.

Jperm reviewed this cube and said he thought he'd put a pvc coating on it, this is why I figured it could be done.

Did anyone else with this Gan 356xs find that the grip got better over time?

This is the first slick cube I've come across. I love the feel of my Gan 354m.

Thanks!

J perm didn't put PVC coating on it, and after he got his second best competition single, he said the grip got much better, and he likes it better than his other cubes.

For an art project, I want an all black rubik's cube with no branding embossing on it. The 3x3x3 cube I have is a rubiks.com one. It's colours seem to be plastic sides rather than stickers. What brand of cube is made with stickers that I could take off to reveal black undersides?

Any help or tips would be awesome.

Erm...Pretty much any speed cube listed as stickered black? For price, just go to like Amazon or something, search up Rubik’s Cube, and find a black stickered cube. I’m assuming you’re not using the cube (like solving with it.)

I don't want to get one and find that the sides are plastic and not stickers that can be taken off to reveal black. I want one that has hard edges in terms of it's shaping as well. Can you recommend one?
The whole idea would be that it's already solved no matter how you move it because all the sides are black.

There you go. Saves you the work of removing the stickers.

Looking to get some non-WCA puzzles. Looking for the best quality for:

Curvy Copter
Master Pyraminx
Redi Cube

I'd like to get them in stickerless, but it's ok if they're only available in black.

Whats the differance between the Gan 356i and the Gan 356i Play? Why is the i Play cheaper?

I think the main thing is it doesn’t have a gyroscope. So it doesn’t detect rotations like x,y and z. There are obviously more things excluded, but thats all I know.

If it can't detect rotations, then it won't be able to follow my solves, right? Because obviously I use rotations.
I think it just follows the GES nuts, so if you are in the White on top Green on front CS, then rotate to White Orange, an F move from your position would look like an L move on the screen. So it could follow your solve, but you’d have to physically drag the cube on the screen to see blind spots when you’ve rotated and all the moves on the virtual cube are like Bs and Ds.

It tracks the nuts position and everything, so not having a gyro won’t affect much. It’s just when you do let’s say, 2x2x3 in FD, then you do a y2 and start doing EO, it would look weird in the virtual cube, as you couldn’t see what‘s going on.

Hello
I have not been speedcubing for a couple of years, and is noticing there are a lot of magnetic cubes today. When did they start being used, and what was the first good magnetic speedcube on the market? Have speedcube design changed much other than magnets? Are magnetic cubes a necessity for pro cubers to be competitive today, or is it more down to personal preference?

Welcome back lol. Magnetic cubes first began being used when TheCubicle released the MoYu WeiLong GTSM in 2016, which was met with a lot of skepticism initially. Over time, magnetic cubes became cheaper and more popular. The only big change in hardware so far has just been innovations in customization technology since in the flagship cubes you can change things like tension, magnetic strength, spring compression, etc. I wouldn’t say pro Cubers need magnets; just look at the NonMagNovember clips. However, magnets definitely help Cubers be more consistent and accurate.

To go on what @OreKehStrah said, there hasn’t been many major changes, except for magnets and customisability. Magnets help with overshooting, misalignments, etc, so they are good for cubes, but not necessary. Obviously cubes are getting better, but its just in like piece design, structure, etc, no big things have happened. Customisability is good, but not necessary, my main and backup are non customisable save the screw tension, and they’re fine. No need to swap any GES nuts or change magnet capsules and set click tension to 8. But thats personal preference. The difference between different companies’ flagships are personal preference.

Magnets […] are good for cubes, but not necessary.
I completely disagree with this. The top cubers can get good times (by our plebeian standards) on any halfway-usable cube, but they get their best times on magnetic cubes. For people looking to be competitive, magnets are not optional. (For the regular 3×3×3 event, that is. Some people still prefer no magnets for OH or blind-solving, but those events involve different turning styles.)
