2x2 single was also almost broken at this comp. Someone got a 0.22 +2, but the delegate ruled it DNF because they thought the timer was malfunctioning, although it seemed fine after. I was watching this solve. It was definitely sub 0.6, not sure bout a .22 though.
elaborate please. who?

So a kid with a 6.76 official 2x2 average almost beat the WR single when the best single that round was a 1.55?

Yes.
Scramble: U' R' F' U2 F' R' U' F' U' F U2 I believe.
He probably did something a good solver wouldn’t have done and it got a skip.

If he actually got a 0.22/sub-0.6, it was probably a 4-5 move solve in which case I'm pretty sure many other people would've one-looked it.

Well it was certainly a timer malfunction, but regardless it is certainly possible to be only person with a sub-1 even if you're not good because different heats use different scrambled as many competitions today, so you only need to be the only person in your heat to see the solution

Most likely; there were a few malfunctioning timers at the comp.
