I figured practice is the key :) Parenthood certainly does take up a lot of your time. I've got 2 sons and one of them shows a bit of interest in cubing but the other doesn't even want to touch them.
It can be hard to improve without a training partner in table tennis. If there's a club near you then joining that will help greatly. I guess it's the same with cubing. If you have more people around you doing it, it makes it more interesting, more fun, and more challenging.
