Last 5 solves are the avg5. Avg12 is not PB, PB is 9.59 (UWR).

QIYI SQUARE-1 REVIEW:

Hey guys,

So this video will serve as my short review of the QiYi Square-1, as well as a average of 12 done by me. It's a 9.66 avg12, which is close to my PB of 9.59, which happens to be, at the time of this video, the unofficial world record for avg12. Also shown in the last 5 solves is a 9.07 PB avg5, not nearly sub-9 yet, but getting there!

So I got my first QiYi from the Cubicle a few weeks back; Phil was kind enough to send me one for free. Unfortunately, it was in black color so I wasn't used to the color scheme and my times were a bit slower on that than on my Calvin's. Right away I noticed the top and bottom layers were relatively stiff compared to my original Square-1. However, the corner cutting on this puzzle is phenomenal; it can cut as much as, if not more than, the mf8 v2. It even reverse corner cuts a tiny bit! I broke it in with some Maru Lube in the layers, but my times were a bit slower. There was another problem, that pieces would often "pop" but still stay in the puzzle, making turning very catchy.

I later purchased a white one from the Cubicle, placing my normal color scheme on it. I then discovered the Low mod, a very simple mod discovered by Raul Low Beattie, that stops the catching in the puzzle and makes turning much more looser. After doing this mod, the cube is phenomenal. In my video I have not lubed my Square-1 yet but the turning is smooth, and the corner cutting still remains the same.

I had a major problem earlier with the cube often loosening after doing a couple of solves; however I temporarily fixed that by flipping the piece on the green side that holds the screw in place.

I would totally recommend this cube to anyone; it has already been a very revolutionary cube in terms of Square-1 hardware, and helped me shave off 1-2 seconds off the times I thought were impossible to beat.
