My modification is totally different from Pi's mod. There's no need to explain more.

Not totally, it uses the same idea. Some fixed non-rotating anchor of sorts to pull the layers along. In Pi's pin-mod it was a pin attached to a non-rotating screw/rivet. In yours it just split the center piece into a rotating part and a non-rotating part with a 'pin'/anchor sticking out.

Let's all make a big deal out of this :p

Face it, you all (almost all) want a better speedcube no matter what. For those that feel bad about buying KO's and are angered by other's buying KO's you feel it is immoral. I think it would be stupid for V-cube to release the V-4 with their original patented design. They take forever to release new products so why would they release something that would be crap?

From what I heard xb27 said it was okay for other companies to incorporate the x-cube core mech. I might be wrong but hey that's word of mouth.

Can we preorder this anywhere other than the V-Cube website?

I was talking via phone with a V-cube supplier yesterday and only information he had was it will be released in February. There is a toy fair in New York and I think they want to present the V-cube 4 there first. I also have to wait until late February early March to get my bit of stock. I would definitely have a pre-order opened if there was a confirmed release date. I'm not so sure if V-cubes.com will do pre order, they might just surprise you at any time ;)

Cool video, although I will would like to see more reviews. Not that it's biased, but if I was sent a cube a few weeks before its release date, I definitely wouldn't rip on it publicly.

About the whole knockoff thing.. as long as a company puts out a quality cube, it will sell... I have a Shengshou 2X2-9X9, but I have all the available sized V-cubes as well. Sony and Samsung both sell televisions using all the same parts and they both utilize the same technology but you buy the one that suits you better or you may even own one of each. I don't hear Sony getting all butthurt towards Samsung just because they were selling TV's first and "own" the rights to the television. And even if Sony had the rights; if Samsung can figure out a way to use similar technology and releases an improved version for cheaper, then all the power to them. Even if Shengshou flat out "ripped-off" V-Cube, what about the torpedoes in the V Cube 3 that are a blatant rip-off of a Dayan? And what about the X-Cube thing now where V-Cube clearly didn't have permission to use this technology as revealed earlier in this thread. It's funny how people are so quick to draw the rip-off card when it supports their argument, but turn their head when it goes against it.

I'm definitely going to buy a V-Cube 4 in a few months but I can't see it being better than a modded Shengshou V3 or V4. It seems V-Cube came out on top a few years ago when they were the only fish in the sea, but now that there are other companies around making similar or even better quality cubes for a third of the price, they seem to be releasing just average cubes in comparison. Time will tell.

fyi the SS 6x6 has the same little bump things on their core pieces. This V4 is really much better than I expected. If it weren't so pricey I might consider getting one.

I have just ordered a white V-cube 4b from the V-cubes site. I also ordered sticker sets for the V-Cube 7, V-Cube 2a and the V-cube 2b as well.

The shipping is shared among all four items, so the cost of the V-Cube 4b (assuming each item has equal shipping costs) is $23.86 EURO or $32.41 AUD.

Which makes it a very expensive 4x4 cube.

If one does the calculation with the cube only and no stickers, the cube costs $35.45 EURO or $48.18 AUD.

This is a very, very expensive 4x4 cube.

For comparison I paid ~ $26 AUD (including S/H) each for all my 3 Eastsheen 4x4's, ~ $12 AUD for each of my 3 Shengshou 4x4's and ~ $16 AUD each
for my 2 QJ 4x4's.

I paid (including S/H) about $34 AUD each for both my Shengshou 6x6 and Shengshou 7x7 cubes.
