Yeah, idioms and figures of speech are real problems in second (and third for that matter) languages.
The exception to the rule is pretty much this: there's a "rule" in place (in this case, posting a lot means you're a postwhore), and somebody or something breaks the mold that the "rule" creates (in this case, posting a lot didn't make you a postwhore, it just made you a valued poster).
