SpeedSolving.com is a website focused on speed-solving puzzles, particularly the Rubik’s cube and alike. Created in 2006, the speedcubing community has grown from just a few to nearly 30,000 people that make up the community today. WCA competitions and unofficial meetups are organized all over the world on a weekly basis. The forum now has well over 1,000,000 posts and growing.
In 2006, the main forum of discussion for the small community was a Yahoo Group, which was basically a mailing list. Having discussions about hundreds of topics at the same time wasn’t easy, nor was it practical with more than 50 active people. Luckily the active community was quite small so it worked. However, in order for the community to grow, it needed to be moved to something more sustainable. It wasn’t long before the group had moved over to a free, open source phpBB forum, using the domain rubiks.has.it. Within a short time, the community had grown for a couple thousands members and nearly 30,000 posts. Around that time we moved the community to run on vBulletin at the domain, SpeedSolving.com, where it has run since.
Through the efforts of many community members, a speedsolving wiki has been built which provides information on the hobby, methods, people, and more. Currently there are nearly 1,000 articles and growing daily.
As the most popular site of its kind, Speedsolving.com attracts a broad audience of both experienced competitors and beginning hobbyists interested in the latest news, times, and techniques of the sport of “speedcubing”. The site also boasts an active community focused on discussion of solving puzzles fast, in the fewest moves, blindfolded, and more.
With news, live event coverage, discussion forums, tutorials and comprehensive speedsolving guides, Speedsolving.com commands the attention of individual competitors and hobbyists alike.
Our philosophy is to place our community above all else. After all, the site is only possible through the generous volunteering of our moderators, the help from our members to help fellow members, and the generous donations by our users, as well as our sponsors (advertisements). These help fund the costs to maintain the site and keep it going. We all share a passion for these puzzles, and it’s why the community is where it is at today. We look forward to seeing what is in store for the future.
We regularly introduce new features and site sections, many of which are products of the community. SpeedSolving.com is powered by custom-written software and vBulletin, one of the most powerful forum systems on the web.
We hope you enjoy your stay on SpeedSolving.com, the largest twisty puzzles & speedcubing community on the web!
