45 moves = 5.92 tps >_> There was a pause, as the R2 U2 R2 U2 R2 pairs threw me off a bit.

Shouldn't be the second solve a DNF? He touched the puzzle after stopping the timer.

A similar case happened at East German Open 2010, when Tomasz Zolnowski did a 4x4x4 solve and stopped the timer with a U move left, then he solved it as a reflex move. I was judging him and I saw that he stopped with a +2 left and I gave him a DNF. Right after the solve I told Sébastien Auroux (the WCA delegate of the competition) and he told me, that if it was clear that he had a +2 only and I saw that for sure, it can be a +2, so I gave him a +2.

In my opinion this rule can be a bit subjective:

"A6e) The competitor must not touch or move the puzzle until the judge has inspected the puzzle. Penalty: disqualification of the solve."

It is the judge's responsibility to say that he has inspected the puzzle well or not. If he didn't pay that much attention, or it happened really quickly it's a DNF, but if the judge saw it well it can be a +2 or no penalty depending on the state of the cube at the moment the timer has been stopped.

Thoughts?

By the way, sorry for going off topic, Feliks, it's an amazing average, as usual! :) It always seems that you are shaking a lot, or lock up but then you just finish the solve with a very nice time.

TimMc could quite easily see it was a +2 when stopped, so I doubt it matters. I'm sure Faz would've taken the DNF anyway, because it was his worst solve, so even if it should've been a DNF which I don't think so, it luckily wouldn't've mattered.

If he would have got the DNF right after the solve it may would have effected his finishes on the rest, since he couldn't have had another DNF. ;) But that's not a big deal, and if the judge noticed the penalty quickly, it is ok.

This discussion was already brought up and basically, my view is that his touching the cube was a simple reflex, he did nothing but bump it across a little (as in, he didn't even pick it up let alone make any moves) and it was clearly a +2 as soon as he stopped the timer.

Tim Sun is an expert in touching the puzzle after solving, has he ever got a DNF due to this? The cubes are clearly solved so i don't think it maters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnMv1CFdFF4 and many more vids on YouTube.

darn, I look so stupid in the bakground

You think you look stupid? I was randomly leaning over in the first solve, and then stood up and started clapping when he finished. :p Why was I even there? I must have just been supporting Brian. :)

Edit: It surprises me that Faz never fails under pressure in the finals, or on his last solve of the comp. He actually seems to do better.

But how could you have been supporting me when I went first and faz went last, all the other times?? what were you doing

I don't know, watching? I guess I probably shouldn't have been standing there if I wasn't in the finals. I was so young and foolish then. :)
