Sorry if it's been mentioned already, but a secondary, but fairly important character in Daniel H. Wilson's new book Amped is a speedcuber, and he's introduced in a chapter titled "Speedcube." Nick (the speedcuber kid) mentions he uses the Fridrich method, and later another character times him doing a 22-second solve.

I just got back from the midnight premiere of the new Spiderman movie. A solved Rubik's cube can be seen on Peter Parker's desk, his Uncle Ben picks it up when he is talking to Peter about stuff. He only turned one face, (I think a D') and then left it.
