Thread: Some questions on different kinds of cubes

    After reading all of these informative replies, I decided to buy another good cube that I can use in between that can help my accuracy. Does anybody have any good suggestions on good speedcubes that can help improve my accuracy before I officially make the lubix zhanchi my main? I'm not too worried about the price, but nothing over 20 please. I would just stick with my ghosthand, but it pops a lot, and when i tried to tension the cube to make it tighter, the center caps would NOT come off! I thought I was just weak, but I read online somewhere that the ghosthand's center caps aren't all removable.

    Start as you mean to go on, there is no point getting used to one type of cube (and worse spending money on it) if you know you're going to move onto something different in a few weeks. I'm not aware of anyone who, after a little practice, couldn't handle a good cube. Also you don't need to be more accurate than your cube will allow. It's easy to learn to not lock up on a ZhanChi, you may still lock up lots on a Rubik's brand... but the solution to that is to not speed cube on a rubik's brand. If you want to get fast on 4x4's+, then you just need to practice on those cubes.

    I'm sorry you stumbled across such a contentious issue skittlez350, there have been many long threads arguing this topic. But I'll leave by saying one of the biggest threads was filled with the faster and more experienced cubers saying they felt if they'd started out on a really good cube, they would have got much faster sooner.

    A good cube doesn't make you faster.... it just holds you back less.

    Yeah, I had never thought the topic was so arguable, I just wanted answers lol. Thanks for all the info, especially the last bit. And I love to solve my 4x4 and 5x5, they are both shengshou and I practice daily, along with my ghosthand 3x3.

    Awesome quote.

    Oh, and skittlez350... did you mod your SS 4x4?
    Violinist. Engineer. Mother of 3 kids. I probably have the UWR for cubing during labour.

    I went from:
    Rubiks -> A-V -> Guhong -> Zhanchi -> Lubix pre modded

    I actually just saw a video of the mod a couple of days ago. I'm pretty bad with modding so I didn't do it yet, but I will try to as soon as I get my hands on some sandpaper. Btw, is sandpaper the best tool for modding, or is something like a dremel better?

    Dremel makes modding faster because it takes off plastic faster but you're screwed if you make a mistake. IMO sand paper is easier for control and its not as easy to mess up but for 4x4 and up I would use a dremel for the corners and outside pieces and sand paper for the internals.
