Sometimes. But not always. You try my $1 dollarstore cube and tell me it's not the cube...

You give a Dayan Guhong to a beginner and tell me it's not the cuber.
    (a^b)^c = a^(b c) e^(2 i pi c floor(1/2-(Im(b log(a)))/(2 pi)))
I've been cubing for only just over 2 years and I feel old already

Thanks for all these replies, I'll try cubing with the ghosthand more until I get more accuracy. Then I will start cubing with the Zhanchi.

I was raising the example of the $1 cube to make my point that "Cuber not the cube" should not be an end all be all statement to cover every case. $1 might be silly, but plenty of people are using Rubik's storebought. You try using a Rubik's storebought to get as fast as you are getting with a Guhong or Zhanchi. And what would be the point of getting those cubes at all if it's "cuber not the cube"?

My point was that your example was ridiculous... And hence I gave a ridiculous example too. the point of the 'cuber not the cube' saying is that, and a true fact i believe, that the cuber makes a much bigger impact on his times than his cube. Also, I can get sub-15 with a rubik's storebought (A few months after I joined last year I was still using a storebought with a sub-15 avg), and 8s normally. With a dayan guhong a beginner could get say, ok be generous, 30 seconds. With a storebought I can get 15. The impact is much larger from the cuber than the cube.
The point of getting a cube is to instantly boost your speed a little.

    So I see it.

    Though I agree:
"Cuber not the cube" should not be an end all be all statement to cover every case.
When someone specifically asks for the best cube you dont simply go "cuber not the cube" but "personal preference here are some examples"
    (a^b)^c = a^(b c) e^(2 i pi c floor(1/2-(Im(b log(a)))/(2 pi)))

There's nothing ridiculous about using a ridiculous example to make a point. Don't people do that? Exaggerate to make a point? Anyway, I totally agree with you that the cuber plays a much bigger part than the cube. 15 with storebought compared to your sub-7 with your guhong... that's twice as fast. But I think a good cube plays a bigger part when you are faster.

But a good cube costs about the same as a bad cube...

A really bad cube costs about £1 here.
My response was supposed to be very much tongue is cheek. I tried solving at speed using my lubed very cheap freebie cube...

    Cheap cube - snail
Rubik's Cube (more than a Dayan) - speed of sound
    Dayan - speed of light

    Striving for a 60s average...
