Default Mefferts Speed Pyraminx: Improving the Tips?

I just got a mefferts speed pyraminx in the mail, and although the body of the puzzle turns well, the tips are some of the worst I've ever felt on a pyraminx puzzle out of the box, and I can't seem to fix them. I don't really like the mechanism that it uses for the tips either. Does anyone have any idea how these can be improved? I have a feeling that sanding off one of the locking nubs under the tip may make it less clicky and turn better, but I don't want to do this if there's a better way to do it. Has anybody tried sanding one or two of these off before? Any help would be appreciated, because other than the tips, it really is a nice puzzle, and it's a shame I can't use it to its full potential just because of the design of the tips.

If you have Lubix, lube it down to screws and springs. It made the cube amazing and dropped my average from 9 to 6-7.

I tried putting some lubix under each one, but it didn't help. They're very smooth once they start turning, but it's getting them started that I'm not a fan of. The clicking mechanism is too strong, in my opinion, and it just takes too much force to get them to turn.

Try compressing or cutting the springs.

What ever you do don't do that. Just put some Lubix under the tips, also some breaking in helps. I've had mine for a few months and its really, really nice now that I have broken it in.

I would suggest Maru lube for the tips and sometimes they take some breaking in.

lol... to make them turn more smooth you just simply have to tighten the puzzle as much as possible. Instant breaking in. But they will break so FAST D:
