Yeah, MBLD didn't used to have a time limit, so a few people tried very large attempts. 23/x is the most number of cubes officially solved in an hour, though.
Actually the 10 min/cube time limit was already in effect. For example, Mondo had to solve his 50 cubes in less than 8 hours and 20 minutes, and took "only" 6 hours and 3 minutes for them.
I wonder how many cubes the best multBLDers would attempt today with the old rules, maybe 100 ? Anyway, the multiBLD event would probably have become really unmanageable, and that's the main reason why the 1 hour time limit was added to the rules.
