the point is it's not about speed, look ahead is very important, even if you have to slow down.

Something that really helped me speedup my F2L was not always starting with a cross. XCross removes the cross -> first pair transition, for example.

X cross can make your solves faster. Try to see the first pair in inspection if you can.
