Thread: OLL 23 Technique?

  1. #1

    Default OLL 23 Technique?

I'm having a tough time with technique/finger-tricks for OLL 23:
    O23.gif (R2 D') (R U2) (R' D) (R U2 R)

Conversely, Bob Burton and Badmephisto do it with headlights toward them:

    oll23.gif (R2' D) (R' U2) (R D') (R' U2 R')

Unlike with other algorithms, I just can't find a rhythm or way of breaking these down that make sense. The headlights-toward-me approach is slightly easier for me, but still clunky. Does anyone have a good technique that they can describe or maybe a good youtube video to point me to? Thanks.

    (a^b)^c = a^(b c) e^(2 i pi c floor(1/2-(Im(b log(a)))/(2 pi)))
I've been cubing for only just over 2 years and I feel old already

I learned BLD once, but I only really use it as a party trick.

    This simple change made a big difference for me. That makes it (R2 D) (R' U2) (R D') (R' U2 R').

Do you mean for the D', too? I definitely use my left ring for D, pulling toward the front. I can see how it's less choppy to use that for D', rather than breaking up the right hand moves. But using the left ring to push the back-down-left corner toward the right is mechanically hard/weird for me -- at least for now. I'll keep practicing.

Playing with the other suggestions now, too. Thanks again.
