I already did all of the mods from that video on my 5x5, but it doesn't reverse corner cut as well as other people's 5x5s after doing the mod. Regular corner cutting is about the same though.
And yes, I've spent nearly 12 hours modding the cube (11 hours before, another 1 hour today for the beveling of the corners)
    PBs (3x3): 6.80 (3x3 nl): 7.91 (2x2): 1.10 (3x3 OH): 24.80 (4x4): 58.08 (5x5): 1:35.23

Are you sure you took enough plastic off the pieces? When I first modded my 5x5 I didn't take enough off and I was really disappointed with it. Then I re did the mod and it turned out amazing.
I live in Canada, I literally have to warm up before I cube :)

I probably took off more than I needed to for the wing edges and corners since there are cracks from the sanded down part where I can stick something into the space inside the pieces. I probably do need to remove more plastic from the center corners since they are more square-ish compared to the corners and edges.
What I'm seeing for reverse corner cuts are that the corners keep on catching onto the center corners, but from the opposite side, where the edge slides past the edge, they have no difficulty passing each other.
I'll do additional modding to the center corners the next chance I get, since I'm gonna be extremely busy in the several days to come. But yeah, that seems to be the main problem in my 5x5.

When your cube locks up or pops, you might be able to see what the problem is.

The thing that worries me about removing excess plastic is that some of it is there to keep the piece aligned. I saw a video where a guy cut the wings off of the edge pieces (the little ones, not the big ones), and I bet he gets more pops (but maybe fewer locks).

As soon as I figure whether I want a black or white cube I'll mod one.

I'm also planning on painting a cube. I'm going to replace yellow with black. Red will be darker and orange will be lighter and metallic. Green will be lighter while blue will be metallic. The idea is to increase the differences in the colors as sometimes I see the wrong color. And so on those four sides I'll have them divided into two groups of (adjacent) two by metallic vs non metallic, and dark vs light. The other division is of course blue/green and red/orange. The idea is to make it easier for my brain to recognize the different sides of the cube by making them visually distinctive in a pattern. I guess most people do this automatically with the given color scheme but I think little things will help...

The idea behind going with black is to incorporate the lack of color into the algorithms. It is a natural color for me to ignore as one must do during F2L. And when lining up the edges I will arrange for the last four edges to be the black ones. That way they'll be easy to spot. And I can think of them in terms of a single color rather than a color pair.

My usual now is to keep the edges in mind as "red/green", which is to say, the opposite orientation to "green/red". With the black edges, I will think of them as "orange" or "not orange" for the two orientations. I think this will take less brain power.

For my 5x5 outer layers, the main problem is the corner pieces that catch onto the center corner pieces. I've already sanded down the corner pieces until there really is no more to sand, so I shall mod the center corners the next opportunity I get.
In the shengshou 5x5, the wings on the edges act exactly as the anti-pop mechanism, where it provides extra support from the center edge and center corner pieces to reduce popping. Removing them might make the cube faster, but I think that the full "world record" mod without removing the wings on the edges is fast enough.

Obviously don't be silly and cut pieces off. The purpose of modding is to make a sharp edge rounder so that pieces will glide over them. Just stick to the original shape of the piece as closely as possible.

I Totally agree, If might do something but you have a high chance of it not working out so be prepared to buy a new cube and re mod it the correct way.

Removing those wings is pretty scary sounding, although removing those internal locks sound pretty tempting...

It costs about $10. If it takes you 2 hours to cut the wings off and discover you've ruined it, well, it was cheaper than if you took yourself to the movies and bought a ticket, popcorn and a soda. And you'll have a story to tell.

I first had a retooled Rubik's brand. I got about 11:xx.xx on average. Then I got a V-Cube my first solve with it dropped down to 6:15. Then I practiced with the V-Cube and got around 3:20. Then I got my Sheng Shou. With it at the beginning I got 3:00 on average. I practiced more. And right now my average is around 2:25. I'm aiming for sub-2 minutes.
