I'm sick of people complaining about things and people begging for a competition but not going when I do organise one because 1hr drive away is too far. So I stopped organising. Would you rather some comps or none? It is not easy to organise a competition somewhere far from where you live. Perhaps instead of demanding a comp in X place, you should be proactive and do something to make it happen yourself. Also, for a comp to happen, there needs to be a good number of people who will go and compete. The last comp I organised got cancelled due to low numbers. So I will not go through with organising a comp unless there is indication of a good turnout. If it wasn't for all the promotion such as TV advertising for the NZ Champs in Wellington, they would not have got the turnout they did.I will be posting a thread soon to discuss with possible dates.
The next competition will be in Auckland as it is close to where I live and the other organisers are in Auckland so can easily do whats needed there. It is also where the most cubers are so will get a better turnout of competitors.
Okay it will most likely be in Auckland, and I most likely cant go but good luck with everything and i hope all goes well.![]()
Also Auckland is better for me than some other place like the south island.
Well I will just have to wait until something is organised here in Christchurch.
We're still deciding on the date, as Josh said above he will create a poll to try and see the most popular date to try and get as big a turnout as possible.
In regards to the location, since both Josh and I live in the upper North island it only seems fair to make it close for us.
So yea, keep an eye out for Josh's thread and have your say on the dates.
P.s If anyone is keen to organise a competition outside of Auckland and is willing to pay for my transport costs I'd be keen to come and delegate. :P
But honestly I hope Elephanta can find sponsorship next year so we can have another competition at Te Papa to help out those cubers further south.
It's not going to happen unless you do it. I know there used to be a group of kids in Christchurch that were cubing, but I don't know what they're doing now. To be honest, I don't think there would be much of a turn out, therefore it wouldn't be worth it.
Basically, the way it is, you'll have to travel if you want to get to a competition. I know it sucks, and it's hard if you're young and at the mercy of your parents, but that's just the way things are. For now, you'll just have to cube alone and deal with it, and if you're still going hard in a few years maybe you'll be old enough to travel to a comp. FYI, I cubed for a year and a half before I travelled all the way to California to attend my first competition.
One suggestion that you could try: Try and find other cubers in Christchurch, and arrange meetups somewhere. Here in Melbourne a group of us meetup every 2-3 weeks at the Melbourne Central shopping mall, and we just hang out and cube and stuff. It was through these meetups being arranged by Tim McMahon that the Melbourne cubing community grew, and eventually they were able to host their own competition.
I like to have a meetup I'm in Wellington and I have no clue how many cubers there are
I missed out on going to every comp expect nz champs 2012 I didn't know about that ( I didn't know about the first one that year
