Thread: Fridrich or Roux?

    Default Fridrich or Roux?

Hey guys, I've been solving Rubik's Cubes for quite a while now and got a 40 second average using the beginners method (didn't actually realize that better methods existed ^_^)

    Anyway, my question.

I've recently started learning Fridrich, with 2 look OLL mostly done, 2 look PLL barely started and F2L mostly worked out. I'm getting 50 second averages with that.

    So, my question is, basically.

Should I keep on using Fridrich, or should I swap to Roux?

I'm debating which is the best method, I know Donovan seems to like Roux quite a bit and the people who use it seem to like it quite a bit, plus it looks kinda cool, so yeah.

    Thoughts?

Try it out see if you like it. We can't decide for you.. Do try to attempt it for at least half an hour before deciding it's too hard to learn though.

Also, give the other big two, Petrus and ZZ a go too.

    (a^b)^c = a^(b c) e^(2 i pi c floor(1/2-(Im(b log(a)))/(2 pi)))
I've been cubing for only just over 2 years and I feel old already

I tried Roux earlier and got to the end part of it and then was a little confused about the whole "bad edge" thing and went back to Fridrich.

Although, I'm attempting Roux again now.

Roux is not something for the faint of heart. Either you actually dedicate time to it or don't use it
Roux. looking for...a lot of mini 3x3s. maybe 5000 or so. PM for details

I think you should learn both 100% and then pick your favorite. The 1x2x3 blocks are a lot harder than the cross, so Fridrich will probably be easier.

Fridrich is a lot easier to develop from the beginners method, but you should definitely try out Roux, it's a cool method, and it's always fun to experiment with different methods. Maybe check out Petrus too, it's not too hard when you know F2L.

Well, i just managed my first solve with Roux (Had to cheat at the end and use a PLL algorithm to orient the edges) and I have to say, it's pretty cool.

Petrus I actually took a look at earlier, and it does look pretty nice, but I dunno about it. Might learn it later on.

EDIT: Hey, if I have an edge cycle, should I just do the one from 2 look PLL or is there one that's best for Roux?
