Default Comp on a Cruise Ship?

I was just thinking about this because I'm a huge cruise ship traveller; I'm going on my 10th cruise next summer. Is it possible to hold a competition on a weekend cruise? would that be a good idea for most people? For example, worlds 2013 (Yeah, i think far ahead...):

it's a 3 night weekend cruise out of miami on the weekend Friday october 11-Monday, October 14 of 2013. Not a bad idea, eh?

It'd definitely be an interesting comp

It is a bad idea. Almost no one in the cubing community could afford it, and certainly most people couldn't take the time off to get to the comp for it to be of fair opportunity to most people.

thought ninja'd by dean: it's way too expensive for the average cuber around here...and people have jobs you know...

Those prices are not bad at all compared to hotel prices, and at a large competition like Worlds, people generally arrive a few days before and leave a few days after the competition, so there would be no difference in the amount of time taken off work (the cruise he linked was 3 days).

I would be more concerned about competitor sea-sickness and stability of the competition area. I've never been on a boat (especially a cruise boat) but I imagine that these are general problems.

Large ships are very stable. Unless it were caught in a huge storm the sheer size of the vessel would keep it steady for the most part. Cubing in a canoe would be tough but the bigger the boat the less you feel the waves

Hmm yes well, for worlds it might be more practicable in terms of taking time off, although the prices are still large compared to a nightly stay at a hotel, and I wouldn't want to think what the prices for things like food are like >.< . It would definitely be an expensive option, even for a competition like WCs.

Usually, the prices for food on cruise ships are included. (except for gratuities)

Maybe for a competition that is not too big first, that way we can get an idea if it was successful and if there was actually a decent amount of people who attended. As for world championships being held on a cruise ship, I don't think that will happen.
