    Default New to the site

    Hi all,

My name is Brian and I'm new to this site. I am 37 and really enjoy cubing. Currently, I average between 45 and 55 seconds to solve. My goal is to get around 30 seconds. I am using/learning F2L (slows me down the most) and I use 2 look OLL and currently learnning all PLL (I know 14 of the 21 algs so far).

Looking forward to learning more and developing into a better cuber...

Great! You'll be down to 30 seconds in no time.

Hi! You'll easily sub-30 if you keep going the way you are right now. As you develop your fridrich skills you can explore some other methods like heise or petrus or roux. You might even want to switch! You can also post your records and averages in your signature.
    (a^b)^c = a^(b c) e^(2 i pi c floor(1/2-(Im(b log(a)))/(2 pi)))
I've been cubing for only just over 2 years and I feel old already

What do you think the advantages of Roux are over Fridich? I've heard of a lot of people on the site using it, but I don't really know what would be the main differences?

You're not "old" yet Godmil...What with your mere 30-31 years of earthly experience! Hah!...

You're officially old when you reach 30/31 and 1 day... Sorry, the clock in my kitchen stopped working the day you turned 30/31...when was that btw...? Your party was the shitz though! Greets to Maggi. Is she married yet? If not, ask her about "snikelgard". She'll remember me

    Greetz...

Sorry for late answer, hope you do read this.
Before I say anything, let me tell you, these are just my opinions. If you hate roux, don't use it.
Roux is far less algorithm-based. It uses intuitive blockbuilding and the mooing (my favourite bit :P) at the end which is also intuitive, so it gives more room for customisation.

The first step is to intuitively build two blocks opposite each other, I sometimes do non-matching blocks, though.

Second step is to solve the corners, allowing the M-slice to be murdered. This is the only alg-based part of it.

Last step is the mooing, or MUing. At this point you have reduced the cube to M,U reachable positions. This part looks especially cool

    It's very different to CFOP.

I just looked up a couple of videos on YouTube and it looks interesting... Couldn't find a good tutorial (but honestly stopped after a couple of tries.) Any videos that you recommend?
