just order a Ghosthand II (White), Dayan Guhong (White), Dayan Guhong (Black), and 4cc of Lubix, time for the agonizing 1-2 week shipping.

You should go here and do all the mods and lubrication techniques to your GuHong if you want it to be really good.

You can be surprised at how good a store bought can become after lubing it with silicone and breaking it in. I can get mid 20s with various lubed store bought cubes.
You cannot even begin to perceive the immenseness of the quack I do not give.

I wouldn't recommend GuHongs to beginners as they hinders your learning of fingertricks. You should start with a "normal" cube until you are reasonably comfortable with your turning, THEN you have the minimum skill needed to start cubing on a Guhong.

I'd say use a cube that is considerably faster, but with less tolerance, than your Guhong to practice, for the best effect when you use your Guhong in a comp. (e.g. Maru DIY)

Out of those cubes they say Ghosthand is the quietest, F-II is the smoothest, Guhong is the fastest, Alpha 5 is also fast but in comparison to the guhong it's a lot more clicky, lingyun is like guhong but pops more from what I've heard. I've had a C4Y, was kinda meh, had a heavy feeling and it didn't really cut corners. I didn't get to test it out for more than a few solves before it fell on the floor and completely shattered the core, and I had to throw it away.

And you don't need to get a type A core for your guhong, these types of modifications are for people that have like sub 20 averages and every millisecond counts towards getting a new world record and stuff like that. Right now as long as you have a decent cube, you should just worry about improving your times by practicing and learning algorithms.
C4Y Cores are the most durable. They can't just "shatter" if it falls on the ground. Even a hammer won't do you any good to it.

Hey guys, I'm another new member here. right now Im using an original store bought rubix brand cube. I lubed it with cooking oil since i didnt have any other lube handy, and in full knoledge that I was going to be getting another cube ( i actually started on a brandless cube that you would need fingers of steel to do finger tricks on, but i learnt some theory using it). I was just wondering if you could give me some insight into just how much advantage i would have in buying a new cube at this stage. I am by no means fast, averaging around 1.20, but i have only started using full f2l and only about to begin looking at the advanced final layer solves.

tl;dr how much improvement will a new cube make me on a 1.20 time with a mutilated store bought rubixs brand?

    thanks in advance.

You may average about a little over 1 minute when you get a new cube. There are a lot of good beginners cubes. I think the mf8 3x3 would be a good beginner's cube, but I don't know for sure. I personally think it's pretty fast with decent corner cutting. You can get one from China or North East United States. You live in Ireland, so I'm not sure which would be faster...
