You are never looked down upon for your times. If you are looked down then those cubers are A holes (I haven't seen this happen yet)

you can get tips and tricks off other cubers
get the experience of a competition
I know everyone is super friendly at competitions, but would it be considered bad etiquette to enter big cube rounds (say 6x6+) if you were super slow at them?
I wouldn't think so, most comps have a cutoff point after your first two solves so it shouldn't matter
