Would solves be faster on a keychain cube due to the size or does the keychain sticking out slow down the time?

Depends on the size, my friend gave a me a keychain to solve, and I could've probably held five or six of them in my hand, and my finger's KILLED solving it. I haven't ever seen an actual keychain cube that isn't very small.

I've once helped my friend to solve a keychain cube, it's very stiff and a few edges popped out when I was solving it!!!!! (But I think his has disassembled his cube before....)

The biggest problem with my keychain cube is it's really easy to pop. Other than that, it's not a bad cube. I took the keychain part out, though. When I got started with serious speedcubing last year, for several weeks it was the only cube I had. I learned most of my PLL algorithms on that keychain cube.

It's now the only cube i have and is also what i got my pb on *proud* :P So I was just wondering if i got a lubricated regular 3x3x3 cube, I'd be a bit faster.

Well, someone just got me a keychain cube for my birthday, and it blows away the regular rubik's brand 3x3's, but DIYs are still better. The plastic on keychain cubes is EXTREMELY rough.

why do you all see that DIY's are better? because you can change the tension? i guarentee my store bought cube is better than a DIY, it doesnt pop, it moves lushly and it doesnt lock up often and it cuts corners well :]

I have a storebought cube that I solved probably 750-1000 times and I was just starting to be pleased with it when my DIY I orderd came in the mail. If you ask me the DIY blows it away. My storebought cube is smoother than my DIY. The only problems were I could not get the storebought cube loose enough and it dosn't cut corners nearly as well, even after sanding and lubing.

Store bought cubes are a hit and miss kind of chance. Sometimes they move good, but most of the time are bad and will never be good. If you spend awhile breaking in one of the good cubes, then it will blow away a DIY, but eventually they become so loose that you can't use them.
