    Default Various layout suggestions

Maybe some of these are in the pipeline already. I think they'd be good for the forum, though. Other people can add more too - it would be useful to have lots of these in one topic.

    - Remove the little page icon at the top of each point if the post doesn't have a title. I don't feel it's necessary.
    - Allow quotes of two or three levels, for discussion purposes. One's often not enough because it's hard to respond to vague statements ("Why is that?" "Prove it." etc) if there is no context.
    - Remove the large space between the end of a post and the signature. I don't mind it if there needs to be some space there to make the post cell as high as the user-info cell, but it's silly to have several lines of space there on a longer post.
    - If possible, make it so clicking on a thread title will by default bring you to the most recent unread post. Going to the first post is not a necessary function, because the "page 1" link is always right there anyway. The current strategy of having to click on a little icon to go to the first new post is not intuitive.

A list of what Pat has already decided to do but just didn't get to it yet or has already decided against would be good, so we know he's aware of it and don't repeat the same suggestions again and again.

    - Make links (<= this is one) stand out, they're hard to notice right now.

Oh yeah, good point. Links are incredibly hard to see in the current format.

Ditto... if not for your arrow, I'm not sure that I would have even noticed that it was indeed a link.

    I totally agree with these.

I just want to add one thing, I did not see anything wrong with the old layout and do not see anything new in the new layout, why can we not have an option to go back to the old layout in case we happen to like the old one ?

I agree with all of what has already been suggested by Stefan and qq.

I was also a fan of the solved/scrambled cube icons for sub-forums and threads; if those could be either reinstated globally or made possible via a setting, I would appreciate it.

Does anybody use those Facebook connections ("publish to Facebook," "Like this on Facebook," etc.) that are throughout the forum? It's not like it's causing a problem, I just don't see how it would ever be used.

Also, I'm not sure whether this came with the new layout or not but I just started noticing it, could you not have those advertisements that say "hello, you've won!" It spooks me whenever I hear them, and cubing-related advertisements would probably be more successful here anyways.

The current code for avatars in threads is:
    Code:
    <img style="border:1px solid #C4C4C4;margin-left:45px;padding:2px;width:80px;" src="customavatars/avatar6329_6.gif" alt="aronpm's Avatar" title="aronpm's Avatar">
    (Using mine as an example)

The width:80px part is an issue. I demonstrated this by putting up a 1x80 avatar, which was then rendered in a thread as 80x640. This has potential for abuse so I think that should be fixed. I don't think it's necessary for that part to be there; if an avatar is uploaded successfully it is already 80x80 or smaller so it can't stretch the page any more than width:80px can. Also, avatars with a width smaller than 80 pixels become stretched by this.

    Oversized images

My suggestion: Give each image a max-width and a max-height, and have a Javascript button to make it full-size.

That solves the dimension problem, but not necessarily the file size problem.
