Thread: "What cube should I get?" The Puzzle Choice Thread

I'm averaging at about 1 min per solve :S and I need a new cube to replace my edison cube. For some reason my edison edge pieces pop mid solve even with all the screws tightened all the way...plus sometimes the screws unscrew themselves when I solve and its very annoying.
I dunno if I just suck at turning or what but I can't switch to my rubiks storebought because I put silicone in it and it sucks now for some reason.

I'd try breaking in the storebought, or making sure that you used 100% Silicone lubricant. Any Petroleum will eat away at your cube.

I think that it would be much easier to tell what cube you should get if you could provide us with a video of a couple of your solves.

Ok, well I don't have a camera atm so I can't shoot and vids but my storebought rubiks is worn in to the point where the plastic film on the stickers are peeling but i think the reason why it sucks is because I put petroleum jelly on it (dan brown lied to me and said it was good for my cube when i first started) and had it on for a while, then i took it out and put in some stuff called Dupont teflon silicone and for some reason it always locks up now. It worked sorta well on my edison but i dont like my edison so yea...
Plus the silicone kinda wears and grinds off.

    Let me get this right:

You put petroleum jelly in the storebought, let it sit for a long time, and then you put silicone in? That's bad. You have to clean the cube out from time to time

Anyways, did you like the Edison cube before it started to pop a lot?

Yep, thats basically my store bought's life story except I cubed alot with it when it had petroleum jelly in it...which is probably even worse than just letting it sit lol

Not really, Before I lubed the edison and worn it in it was pretty bad because it was hard to turn, then I put some lube in it and it made it feel a lot better but it never really felt smooth :S and in the back of my mind I knew if I went too fast my cube would pop. Once it popped and slid under my band teaches podium so I had to lift up his large podium and look for 1 edge piece lol, at that point I hated my edison and wanted another cube.

I've only tried edi cubes, so I don't have too much experience with them, but from what I do know, they are heavy and a bit smooth yet hard to turn at the same time.

What I'm asking is do you like that smooth turning? Or do you like crispness.

And could you do your best to describe what your turning style is like? Just imagine that you had a cube that would never pop or lock up. How would you turn on it? Would you describe your turning as aggressive, light, heavy, precise, relying on corner cutting, primarily hand turns, primarily finger tricks, lots of re-grips, all of that stuff.

Make sure the cube are talking about is in its out of a box condition not the "lubbed and break in condition" but state both if you want. Some people do diff stuff on their according to their preference. For me i like the crispy feeling, the best for this to me is an a2 but my diy have a crispy feeling but it locks up quite sometime.the a2 justs pops too much for me.

What 3x3 mini cube should I get.
