Thread: Corner Cutting Help

  1. #151

Default How do you cut corners when having a tight tension?

So i like tighter cubes, but when i tighten it , my dayan zhanchi loses its ability to corner cut. With and without the torpedoes. I currently have no torpedoes, because it is more smooth. So how can i keep a tighter cube with the ability to corner cut atleast 45 degrees

I would say lube it, and put the torpedos back in so it doesn't pop. If the torpedos make the cube rough, try sanding off the bumps on the corner base. Also, tighter tensions can sometimes make the cube more likely to pop, so just bear that in mind.

I am going to lube it. I had lubix in it before, but i was an ***** and washed it off when experimenting with my cube. At the moment my cube never pops, my friends zhanchi who has torpedoes pops alot, because he likes the looseness. Still before and now, with tighter tensions i could not cut 45. it would just lock up. I might try the corner thing though. But anything else?

Possibly breaking in and mods (48PEM, CPM etc)? And some people say the Zhanchi is better with the torpedos. But I suppose it's all down to personal preference.

No need to cut 45 degrees, seriously.

I agree with Sahid, but if you would like it to be able to cut that much (which I do anyway, for OH and rough-turning noncubers who scramble for me sometimes), check out Cyoubx's tutorial on tensioning Dayan cubes.

If you need extreme corner cutting I'd personally take a step back and look at your technique and question why it is necessary. You shouldn't really need more than a few degrees if you can turn relatively accurately.

Is it me or does the timer run faster when you are cubing???

Switch to a non-corner-cutting cube, improve your accuracy, and switch back.

    This is terrible advice.

Do not intentionally switch to a worse cube lest you pick up bad habits.

No, not a worse cube. Same speed, without corner-cuts. Maybe a Maru. My Maru's quite fast, but it doesn't corner cut even ten degrees. After I switch back, it seems my cube's not as bad and I get good times.

By worse cube I mean something like a Rubik's brand--stupid, slow, and bad. Or, perhaps, maybe one can deal with locky cubes by just focusing.
