Thread: Are Cube Rotations neccessary in this kind of situation?

Default Are Cube Rotations neccessary in this kind of situation?

hey just wanna find out is cube rotations worth it in this situation:

Grab the nearest cube, and do :R U R' U' (two edge flipper) and y2

most of you would probably do U L U' L' but what if i need to insert it as the final pair? i use VHF2L so should i do a y2 or should i do a U2 and then a d2 simply because doing cube rotations require regripping of the cube which is slower?

    thanks

Well which ever one is quicker for you personaly is the one i would do.

    Would the U2 d2 give a somewhat better look-ahead?

What you should do is to learn the algorithms with mirrors, on te R/L-plane, F/B-plane, and the F/B & R/L-plane. Then you could do the pairs in any order.

    rotations are not that bad....
i don't lose anytime when i rotate, versus doing the algorithm with awkward turns.

this would make it not awkward.

you mean insert the pair from the other side and orient LL edges?

What alg would you use for your position, if you started with y2?

    i use jason baum's algs :http://jmbaum.110mb.com/zbf2l.htm but if for the case above, i use R' F R2 U R' U' F'

Lol, I know that case well.
Mirror it, but I would also do an X' rotation, which takes basically no time, because it's at the same time as the first turn.

    That means that your new algorithm can be L' B L2 U L' U' B', which can be rewrote as r' U r L U L U' B'. That is what I would use.
